Dangerous Dave mod (proof of concept)
Hi all,
I just finished implementing enough of the Camoto GUI that I can now save modified levels, so as a test I have created a one-level mod for Dangerous Dave. Only the level has been edited (same graphics and everything else) because that's as much as I have implemented so far :-) If you're curious, grab the modified dave.exe and see if you can finish my level! |

Excellent. It's good to see user levels for old DOS games of 1990-93. Good luck with that editor for future games too.

Are you planning to post the source code to the Camoto GUI soon?

Re: Dangerous Dave mod (proof of concept)
Yes, although it's still a little way off an actual 'release' I will make the code available on GitHub once I've completed a couple more things. It is currently a manual process to extract files embedded within others (you have to use the 'gamearch' command from libgamearchive to extract the level files from dave.exe, for example) so I would like to automate that first, as well as having some sort of packaging command that reverses the process so that the changes are playable (again this has to be done by hand from the command line at the moment.)
Once I've done that I'll put the code up, but just be aware that it's not yet a fully usable editor - I haven't added a tile list yet, so you can only copy and paste tiles around within an existing level. Of course this will all come with time, just don't get your hopes up too soon :-) |

Re: Dangerous Dave mod (proof of concept)
Haha nice, glad to see you found the secret area :-) I hadn't planned on anyone using the jetpack to get there though, the intended method was to fall/climb down those two trees near the level exit, and end up at the top of the level!
Thanks for the video! (Also, glad you got the right version, I accidentally uploaded an incomplete version and it took me about a day to notice!) |

Re: Dangerous Dave mod (proof of concept)
We should recreate the levels of the original Dangerous Dave for the Apple II, Dangerous Dave Returns and Dangerous Dave Goes Nutz! in the DOS version of Dangerous Dave.

Re: Dangerous Dave mod (proof of concept)
Interesting idea. Probably no need to do the original Apple II DDave though, apart from level 2 it looks like all the other levels are the same!

Re: Dangerous Dave mod (proof of concept)
Level 3 is shorter and in level 7 one of the water tiles is fake, so you can get to the secret area that way.
