Megaloman
Just curious - Whatever happened to Megaloman, which was listed in an Apogee catalogue I got with a game around 1994, and which was supposed to come out in that same year?

Re: Megaloman
It was scrapped mostly due to Jim Dose's work on other projects. He was involved in several things at once, and Megaloman fell by the wayside. As I recall, it didn't develop well enough as well, so the combination of things led to it's cancellation.

This is covered in the Apogee FAQ. http://www.3drealms.com/faq

P.S. Don't start threads about a new topic inside another one (I extracted this from the Alien Carnage thread). Thanks.

OK, I went and pulled out a Megaloman beta from July of 1993. This msg has the logo that was in the title screen. There was nothing else on it, just a black screen with this in the middle.

Here's a screen grab of the start of the game. It's Megaloman in the blue suit.

Another capture from the start of the game.

I'd take more, but the problem is my 13 year old DOS screen capture program freaks out when I use it to take screen captures of a 12 year old unreleased game beta. It takes the shot, but then makes the game unplayably slow.

Looks like the tick mixed with megaman....
Is that "ego" I see instead of health? Sounds like manhatten project.

EDIT- As for the captures, I'd suggest dosbox (uses ctrl-f5) but I'm not sure if you want to try it.

Don't know why I didn't think of DOS Box. I ran it again through that - and WOW. I hadn't heard the sound in that game for years. Forgot it even had any!

Anyway, I took another shot.

I was chatting with Megaloman's programmer (who's at id now), and he said he has some later betas with better art that he's gonna try and dig up for me sometime.

Maybe Joe is lying and these pictures are really pictures of the platform game Duke Nukem Forever. This means that these images are the first images of DNF that got released since 2001(?). It looks like Duke Nukem in the suit of the Tick, just like Arnold Schwarzenegger in the Turbo Man suit in Jingle All The Way. Now I see why it got cancelled.

Re: Megaloman
Megaloman uses ego instead of health because he was an up and coming super hero, and needed every bit of ego he could get. Unfortunately at the mercy of a monster made from Leatherface and Jason, his ego was busted.

Megaloman was out of commission before he could start his worldwide quest of superhero-dom, and now his sole success is the Mega-Lo-Mart that is seen weekly on TV's King of the Hill.

Well This is what I believe anyways.

Don't count on it. Besides, there's really nothing to do in this. You just scroll along - Megaloman moves, but none of the enemies do. No weapons, no nothing besides a few enemies who just glide - they don't have walk animations.

There's nothing to PLAY here.

Well, well. I can totally see why this was cancelled. Too close to Doom (had it been released after Doom, it would've been... doomed ), and graphically too primitive.
Did Megaloman's "ego" work anything like Duke's ego in DNMP?

COOL! Did you ever get that later beta copy that the guy at ID Software said he could get for you? If so, how does that compare to your own beta copy?
