Loading problems

I don't know if this have been discussed before, so here goes:

I reinstalled Max Payne (felt like trying out the new Kung-Fu mod). After the intro, the computer freezes after loading one third (the red bar). It has worked before.
I've tried everything: different types of installation, with ang without patch, different drivers for graphicscard and so on and so on...

384 MB SD-ram
ASUS V-7100 (GeForce 2MX, 32 MB ram)
ASUS A7V motherboard
30 GB Deckstar
Pulsar 1 (soundcard)
