Yingyang Instakill Lasers
I remember making a thread awhile ago about this, but I lost it (probably got pruned?).. everyone said it was not possible, but it most definitely happens. Having 100 or 100+ health, occasionally when getting shot by a laser (liztroop or sentry) it can kill you in one hit. Played on hardest difficulty, and this was definitely more noticable

This happened with the regular version of the game I believe, but I play with the newest eDuke, playing coop w/ friendly fire off, in case that helps

Do the difficulty levels increase enemy damage (multipliers?), or anything of that nature? In the con files what is the max damage they're supposed to be able to do?

In USER.CON:

define FIRELASER_WEAPON_STRENGTH 7

Note that doesn't include a small amount of random damage.

My best guess is that it is a multiplayer bug having to do with the fact that FIRELASER is composed of several different sprites linked together. If all the sprites hit instead of just one, then it would do a lot of damage.

No this is a true bug and it's hidden away inside the sorce code somewhere. It does happen even in normal gameplay/SP as well. It doesnt matter if you get hit by 1 or 10 fire lasers at once.

I know, but what I'm saying is that a FIRELASER projectile is composed of several different sprites all with the picnum FIRELASER. Somehow the game decides that one of these sprites (the lead one?) does the damage and the rest don't. If that got screwed up somehow then perhaps all of them could do damage at once, which could cause the buggy result. And by the way, the multi-sprite nature of the FIRELASER is something special and hardcoded, and is not the same as having a projectile spawn FRAMEEFFECT1.

I think this happened to me for the first time yesterday. Can't say for sure I had a lot of health the moment I got hit but I sure got a few of those WTF killed me when playing SP yesterday. Everything is going great +100 health and a few seconds later a laser kills me. It's been more then just one trooper most if not all of the time though so I guess it's possible I just got hit a lot in a very short amount of time. But still that would be 10+ shots hitting me in just a few seconds.

DP's suggestion sounds like a very plausible reason for the bug if it exists. I could easily see how a solution like deleting all of them once one hit might cause such a problem if more then one hit the same tick.
