Will there ever be a Gold Edition of Prey ?
I was wondering if there ever be a Gold or something like special edition of Prey , like Painkiller Gold Edition or Quake III Gold Edition, that will incorporate all the update patches and the new multiplayer maps and all other enhancesments in one go with a new installer ? Was wondering if such a release is on the minds of 3D realms ?
Also if such a release is on the minds of 3D realms, was wondering if they will remove the CD/DVD checks from the release like we saw with Painkiller Gold Edition of Quake III Gold Edition ? |

Well, the Painkiller Gold and Q3A Gold also added in their respective expansions. PREY has no expansion pack so it is extremely doubtful that they would release such a version when the added maps are so easy to get in the patches.

Re: Will there ever be a Gold Edition of Prey ?
I could be wrong but I dont think Soldier of Fortune II Gold Edition added expansion pack for it ? Surely there are games which have no expansion packs but gold editions available for them ?
And can it be confirmed that Prey will NOT have an expansion, but rather the next installment will be Prey 2 directly ? |

If there are no expansion packs, Gold Edition if released, can contain all the updates released to that date and new multiplayer maps emebedded in a new installer . And if we get lucky, may be the CD/DVD check will be removed to from the game executable.

Re: Will there ever be a Gold Edition of Prey ?
Point #4 is not so far-fetched. Myself, I have archived 1.73 GB of Prey stuff coming directly from 3DRealms and/or Human Head.
I have (obviously) the demo; the patch v1.3; the SDK; the manual in PDF; all the official videos and screenshots relating to the Human Head Prey version (separated by year); the whole list of 2005/2006 Weekly Updates; the tutorial maps; the video interviews from Gamespot; the desktop backgrounds and MSN icons; the 1997 and 1998 E3 videos; the Infinite MHz interviews to Paul Schuytema. But I also have lots of more obscure stuff that was archived mainly in 3DGamers, Lon Matero's site or Wayback Machine: all of the 1996 Weekly Updates; 189 screenshots from 1996, 1997 and 1998 (the earliest of which was released on February 2, 1996); early artworks from the Tom Hall era; Paul Schuytema's Designer Journals from 1997 and 1998 where he describes various aspects of developing Prey; press releases from Oct 21, 1996 to June 28 2006; IRC logs from 1996/97 when George was eager to visit #duke3d and drop info about Prey; all released versions of Lon Matero's Prey FAQ (which I was considering to update to the "real" version of Prey); the songs "Inane", "Megalomaniac" (released by 3DRealms to let us know how KMFDM sound like) and "Missing Time" (released by prey.net , it was featured in Heavy Metal 2000 but was originally part of the Prey soundtrack as Sascha Konietzko stated in 2003). Unfortunately, I'm missing the 360 degrees screenshots that were released in 1998 and the 1995 FidoNet message where Joe announces Prey. If someone STILL has them, please let me know!

The person who would be most likely to have that would be Lon Matero.

Somebody should have them... but finding that person could take a long time.

Re: Will there ever be a Gold Edition of Prey ?
I'm upping this topic because I found thumbnails of the 360° Prey shots! At this page: http://web.archive.org/web/199911160.../360shots.html
And here are the thumbnails, mirrored to Imageshack: I really wish Prey.net had also mirrored the actual screenshots, instead of just hotlinking them.
