2 weeks out, Anyone playing MultiPrey?
About 2 weeks after Prey Release, how do people like MultiPrey?

I played MultiPrey for the first time today, and although it has its problems, MultiPrey seems to be a heck of allot of fun.. With the Spirit Walking, Portals, and Gravity Walks, MultiPrey has a multiplayer experience that is truly unique and never done before. I think Spirit Walking has the most potential, wether you just stash your body and hunt down foes in spirit mode or strategically pop out of your body at opportune moments and shoot an arrow, It adds a heck of allot of fun and strategy to the game.

MultiPrey is not without its problems though, I had pretty bad ping compared to other games even on the best ping servers. And also my framerate seemed to drop a lot more then the single player game. I'm sure some of these problems will be ironed out in a patch or two.

The MP is great fun even with the dizziness and sea sickness. But, more people should play it. not sure why they are not. Maybe some light could be shone on this here?

My apologies if this is already addressed in other threads but i'm too busy playing to read them all

I like MP games... but deathmatch gets kind of pointless after a while. I like to play a bit, as a warmup, but I really want to see CTF.

Which are you talking about - PC or 360?

Don't forget, server ping is a MAJOR deal. A lot of servers out there max out the players, or worse - override the 8 player limit. If you're on a cable modem, you should not be attempting to run a server with more than 4 players. Performance will suffer otherwise. That's where a lot of this comes from - people setting up servers who can't handle the bandwith demands of what they're setting up.

There's posts that go into this in more detail in the Tech forum.

Im talking about the PC version.
Im concerned that people arent going to open up there high bandwith lines for only 8 players, So im sure that we are just seeing people running servers off their cable modems.

I just finished playing it, and as I thought the 'problem' lies with the players. Everyone is crowding servers, I saw one with 12/16 players! I just joined a random empty and server and in seconds was playing with someone.

You can't just crowd the servers. Spread out.

Exactly. I think thats the biggest problem right now with people complaining about lag in the servers, if theyd just spread out then there wouldn't be any problem. And in answer to the first poster, I play almost everynight for a time, my name is the same as my forum name.

Well, I JUST tried Multiprey (PC) for the first time and had a blast. I got completely massacred by some guy named "I Want a Pwny" (*snicker*) but it was fun nevertheless and I came in second out of 4 players.

I'll definately be doing it again.

Playing in a 2 or 3 player server is just boring. Plus, deathmatch games tend to die out quickly, leaving only a couple hundred players playing.

Re: 2 weeks out, Anyone playing MultiPrey?
I have'nt played the past couple of nights, everytime I got on there all the servers with ppl playing had a ping greter than 500, all the servers with goog pings were empty, so I said "screw that". It seems some people only look at the playerlimit when browsing servers, probably the same people complaining about lag. More players does'nt make it fun anyway, any more than 8 and it becomes a spamfest, all skill goes out the window, not to mention it lags out after that.

Re: 2 weeks out, Anyone playing MultiPrey?
I like playing with a more crowded server. Alot of the MP maps are big enough to handle 16 players, and I finally got a server up that can handle that many

The way I see it is; more players, more action, less heavy weapon whoring. it adds a whole new flavor to the game.

I play it pretty much for the achievements on X360, I like it alot. Roadhouse, savage walk, spindle sphere are my favs. But the lag is really killing the epxerience. When I host it's okay and others have good pings to, but finding a mtch is a disaster.

I wont play with 3 or 4 people. I dont like to spend my time running through empty halls looking for someone to shoot. There should be some smaller maps, especially since the game can't handle large numbers of players.

the dm aspect is pretty crap, there is no control on the maps at all, this is what I've discovered in the demo anyways, I've yet to play the full game.

what i meant to say was that you can´t compare Quake 3 - a game made entirely for multiplayer - to Prey - a game that focuses on the singleplayer experience.
Though i think that Prey´s weird level design and weapons, make a pretty cool multiplayer experience as well.

I've been playing a bit every day since the demo, and it's a blast. I usually stick with Human Head servers below 100 ping, and I never join anything over 8 people max. I just wish there were more TDM servers out there.

There's absolutely nothing like getting massacred and chased by someone, turning a corner, turning around, and spirit walking them right into your arrow

Still holding out for CTF, King of the hill, Oddball, etc.

I only tried Multiprey with the demo a couple of weeks ago. I gotta say: even though the gravity stuff and Spiritwalk add nice touches (the portals don't make a lot of difference as teleports always have been part of Sci-Fi multiplayer shooters), I'm still bored pretty quickly by Deathmatches. Ever since Counter-Strike cropped up I definitely prefer Teamshooters like CS, Star Wars Battlefront or, my personal favorite, Battlefield 2. Deathmatch is just too dull and mindless, gravity gimmicks or not.

Re: 2 weeks out, Anyone playing MultiPrey?
I've got the 360 version, and after playing the demo, I think I was the only one out of my friends who wasn't buying the game purely for the multiplayer - it was so refreshing that they just couldn't put it down.

Personally, I'm a big fan of deathmatch games. I've played Halo/Halo 2 since Xbox launch, and generally tend to play deathmatches and team dm's over everything else (albeit highly customised settings wise), and with Prey's portals, gravity and guns.. It's a refreshing change. I play BF2, CS1.6 and Call of Duty 2 a lot on my PC and GRAW on the 360 all on a frequent basis, don't get me wrong, but it's really nice to go down to the basics again and just shoot each other. Reminds me of the good old days of Quake III, where there were no tanks to spawn camp you, or round based games that make you sit out for ages.. Just pure one on one skill based combat.

If they could only flesh it out a bit, it would be one of my favourite multipredator games. CTF and Territories, possibly some form of Juggernaught esque gametypes would be nice, but personally I'd kill just for the ability to choose what weapons are on the maps, change the starting health, weapons, etc etc etc. Make the multipredator more customisable, and I'm in heaven.

Oh, and maybe a few more maps. But we know those are in the works, anyway.

Edit: And possibly a tournament gametype, or at least enough settings for me to make my own (one life, no respawn, multiple rounds, short-ish time limit per round, only 2 players allowed at once, winner or loser stays option) á la Halo.

I tried it a few times. The character moves too slow for my tastes in deathmatch. It has a console FPS feel where it feels like dodging takes a backseat to simply having the better weapon and being the first to start shooting at somebody. The weapons were balanced for single player, and the multiplayer feels like an afterthought.

Thats funny, I can dodge nicely and take people out with ease. You don't need to move like a car for dodging to work as with any game made in the last 5 years.

Look at FEAR. Dodging plays a large role and yet you move slowly and realistically.

To each his own, but there is definitely something wrong with a new release multiplayer game that only has around 30 people playing it on a Saturday afternoon.

Not really. Popularity does not make a game good. The boring trite that is Halo DM has thousands playing, it doesn't make it good.

Wrong. A good game will have people playing. A boring/bad one will have less people playing. There is no more objective method of determining what is a good MP game and what isn't.

Unless of course, you chose to be biased.

Biased it is. Some of the worst TV shows of all times have gazillions of viewers, while some of the greatest and most acclaimed shows get the shaft because of low ratings.

Or lemme put it this way: just because billions of flies love to eat shit, it doesn't mean that shit is great.

Oh please, in that regard Counter-strike is THE best game in existance. So if a game is underrated and has very few playing it must be shit right? Well thats your logic.

Who cares if a game is fun or quality, as long as billions play it then it must be good.

Hey wait better yet - I guess Pop music doesn't suck, because clearly it has millions of fans! How very biased of me!
