Why yes, a bunch of those games are big on the hit parade, I understand all of that. I am just hopeful that I can see some of those games running in DOS Box without freezing on me, or going majorly slow on me, tho. That's going to be the tricky part right there.

I think I only really recognize about half of what's on that list. A few names that aren't instantly recognisable seem to sound vaguely familar, from the Apogee FAQ--Cyril Cyberpunk or Ravager for instance.

What's Duke Nukem 2D?

I recognize everything , except Utopos. I wonder what that is.

I didn't know Strife was going to be an Apogee game. It makes sence thou, as the same people who made Raptor (aka Mercenary 2029) made Strife.

It nice to see Legend of the Seven Paladins there .

/me laughs

A lot of those were never released anywhere. So it's NOT possible for you to have done so.

Strife wasn't going to be an Apogee game - it's just there. I was one of Strife's testers (in a minor way), I just put it there.

And Doom started life as an Apogee title before id went to "do their own thing".

I think - and I must stress think, because I am not sure.. I think Utopos was a demo that was given to us by Remedy at the same time as Max Payne was originally. But I'm going off memory there, and I admit I'm unsure of what I'm saying. But I know Utopos was a demo from someone pitched to us as a game, but I can't remember who at the moment. Normally I don't keep things like that, but I recall liking it, so I hung onto it.

I wish I had kept the tech demo pitch of Fumes.

Jani Penttinen was a senior programmer for Remedy and he designed, developed and published Utopos for the Atari ST as shareware.

Including the titles I have just heared by name and thus can at least recognize them it's a total of 17 for me - from which I played 11 at least as demos and own 6 as full versions (I used to have Doom for the SNES 'till I sold all of the stuff - whish I hadn't done this -_-". But on the other hand I own Duke3D twice - V1.3D from the first day it was released in Germany and since about one year the atomic edition - which I found for 15 bucks in a store that is now colsed)

Is there playable stuff in every folder or just some dev.media (regarding those folders which contain unfinished or unreleased material)?

No, everything that's in there is a demo or game or build of some sort. How playable is a different story.

Also, several of them are zip files that have passwords that have long since been forgotten. I've started setting some zip crackers on them.

I imagine it's basically nothing, having seen the old alphas made availiable for historial purposes. They have id's logo and name all over them, so anything Apogee relating to Doom must be even older.

Violent Vengeance IS Sango Fighter. The only different is the title (and appropriatly changed graphics for the name change). We were going to distribute it in the US for the folks who did it elsewhere. There honestly was NO difference besides the name.

Ravager is not Alien Carnage. It's something else - but it's not HH/Alien Carnage, or I would have stuck it in the same directory as Halloween Harry.

Duke Nukem 2D is what we called "Duke Nukem Forever - the Scroller" for awhile.

actually... I'd love to play some of those Alpha's/Beta's. I don't know why but I always loved to play very old versions of games I really liked (so Lameduke was pure gold to me! Too bad Jonof's port doesn't run it) I think it's fun to see what it was, and what it became.

Any chance "the public" will see any of those games?

There's empty folders in that. Everything has at least one build. Then with Prey I have CD backups of the E3 1997 and 1998 demos still. Same for the DNF 1998 E3 game. Although I'm not sure if they'll still run, I believe the DNF build was dongled, and I doubt we still have the security dongle from back then.

I remember and played most of them, but the one's which made my heart shake are Hocus Pocus and Strife...especially strife....it's so fooking sad this game came not a few months earlier and got not the attention a Duke Nukem 3D or Doom got, since I think this game is even greater than both of the before mentioned...

My three all-game heroes are (in no particular order):
Strife - The Quest of the Sigil
Hocus Pocus and
Solar Winds

Damn...

Don't have any old betas for that. The majority of this stuff was collected by myself. Crystal Caves was before I had any connection with the company beyond being a customer.

I started work here in Dec of 1992, and I was a beta tester from about June of 1992 till the point that I started working here. I came on board as a beta tester right after Wolfenstein 3D shipped.

I tried a really nice zip cracker once upon a time that required one file from inside the archive. If you had one file, it could figure out the password. It worked perfectly for me when I only had a single file from a zip and I had forgotten the password. Only problem is I forget the name of the program now, it was a while ago.

The first sequel to Wolf3D was Spear of Destiny. Then there were three SOD Addon packs produced by Formgen (that were crap).

Rise of the Triad originally started life as nothing more than new levels for Wolfenstein 3D. It evolved into it's own game, but at it's core, it uses the Wolf3D engine.
