Terminal Velocity on Windows XP - Video Shakes
I'm thinking of buying Terminal Velocity. Before I shell out bucks for it I'd like to get the demo version working on my WinXP box so I can have some assurance I can do the same with the full game.

With the latest version of VDMSound, I can get it working pretty well, but there's a video problem. The video "shakes", showing strobe-like flashes of previous frames.

It's as if the page-flipping code flips to the new frame, then flips back to the old frame, then back to the new one.

This makes what should be a smooth flying experience into a jerky mess.

Let me clarify one thing: It's not that the frame rate is low - in fact the game plays quite smoothly. It's just these retro-flashes that make the video look jerky.

Does anyone have a clue how to fix this? Perhaps another DOS-program-helper?

I've tried DosBox, but the game runs at a frame rate of about .2 FPS.

Any assistance would be more than welcome.

Turn the sound off, and play without VDMSound, play the game itself. Does it do the same thing?

The picture shakes the same way with no sound configured (both through setup and the game options screen) and without VDMSound running.

Odd - I'll ask one of our other tech guys when I see them next Tuesday about it and see what they think.

BTW, I'm not the only one experiencing this problem. Here's a relevant page on NTCompatible.com:
