How about...
Seeing as how Duke 3D XBLA has clearly been massively popular with fans of the old PC version, why not produce a free/cheap map pack DLC with some of the maps made by members of the old PC community?

Perhaps forum members could nominate their favourite levels for inclusion and, if the map designer can be contacted, then the best few maps could go in the pack. A lot of those old maps were great, but until Duke XBLA I've never been able to play proper Dukematches and it'd be great to play on some of those classic user maps.

Of course, if there was ever a PS3 version (and depending on how the code has been ported), it'd be good if it was compatible with MAP/ART/CON mods on a USB stick, like UT3 was.

Re: How about...
I was thinking this exact same thing. That would be so awesome, also a list of other things that I would love to see:

Widescreen (even though I read that it's not possible to do with the build engine, but I could be wrong)

And even though they are sprites, I would love to see different characters for Dukematches/coop. Of course it wouldn't be super customizable, but at least a couple different character sprites to choose from (or even be able to use the Troopers, Pigcops and other sprites around Dukes size) Mainly because playing coop is confusing telling players apart even though they have that palate swap.

Increase the amount of User Clips you can save, and the length of the ones you can share/upload! Although I am not sure how the file storage for sharing files online works, I really wish I could upload more clips...which brings me to my next idea....

Being able to edit your clips! Nothing fancy, just cropping and trimming them down, taking some of your favorite RPG blasts to the face and just being able to trim it down (and maybe creating a highlight reel?)

Then more nitpicking stuff like being able to change the side bar pictures, maybe have a couple different themes on the side you could choose from?

Then also some new multiplayer modes? Team Dukematch?

But I do suppose all that stuff is small nitpicking things, but if they ever do decide to launch a map pack for it (which every Duke fan here would want ) I would totally be up for donating some of my maps or creating some new ones. So pleeease 3DR?

I think widescreen support was added in the EDuke32 port. . .I think. Someone with a widescreen or TerminX could confirm that.

Remember, this was a side project; don't expect any updates. Also, Microsoft is in charge here, 3DR would have to submit something, MS clears it, then puts it up. Also, Duke Maps were free, and I think they had to be free (not sure though). Another thing. . .I am pretty sure 3DR doesn't own the rights to the user made maps. . but I am no copyright lawyer and I haven't read the proper documentation.

I imagine that it would be possible to load up *.map files onto your 360 (via USB or something) and host with buddies who also have that map. But those would not be ranked maps or anything.

Re: How about...
Well, I think with the whole adding new maps thing, even though there are some older fan favorites, 3DRealms could post something about users submitting their map creations (because I hardly doubt they would have the time to create a bunch of new maps) and have rules/stipulations stating that any maps submitted would basically become their property and they can distribute them as they see fit. Sort of like how some blogging websites have a user license that says any content submitted can be reproduced and distributed without contacting the author or paying any royalties etc.

So then they'd gather up all of the best Duke maps submitted, play test them for any bugs, create anything that would be needed to make it an add-on and work with DN3D, and then submit it to Microsoft.

I am sure they'd get plenty of people creating new maps or submitting their own older maps, I know I'd bust out build again for it. Well, thats just my opinion/idea. Or they could even pull it off like a contest, "submit your user created map and it could be included in the next user map pack for Duke 3D!"

I think a cooler idea would be if 3DR could get the expansion packs on the DLC but I think there are issues with getting the rights or something like that from the developers.

This was still a side project to keep them entertained between DNF production and QA testing. I think it was basically said that nothing else is planned until DNF is released.

I know the forums have the clause that anything posted here can be used by 3DR but I am not sure about maps. I have not read any of the legal documentation for Build or Duke3D though.

Adding the expansions (and making them work together) is a great idea but as Nacho said it is kind of DOA due to the fact that 3DR didn't make any of them. Which is why I am pretty sure they don't have the rights to publish user made maps without consent etc.

I would like Duke it out in DC, Duke Caribbean: Life's a Beach, and Duke: Nuclear Winter. I just beet the main game. I NEED more Duke! I'll even pay another $10 for more Duke! Is there some kind of legal issue with those games?

3DR doesn't own the rights to those titles.

no, but there is a possibility that the creators of those add-ons would actually help in making DLC for Duke3D... or not? who knows right?

Don't count on it. The rights to those are held by a bankruptcy judge, if I know my lineage right.

Thanks for clearing that up Joe. If only Bungie gave the same kind of help you guys give!
Well, I guess no new Duke for me in a LONG time. Well, actually there's that "Duke Nukem Trilogy" thing coming this summer. Though I won't think of it until I see a trailer or something. (I'm pretending the other trailer was a fan made one and not made by an actual professional gaming studio.Just go along with this.. please!)

No, that was not a fan video. It also was not an actual "trailer" as such - it was released as such when it should not have been.

Yup. That along with DN: Manhattan Project which would make for a great XBLA game in its own right. Real sad what happened with the Sunstorm situation.

Agreed, I think Manhattan Project would make a great XBLA game. I haven't looked into it in awhile, but I don't know of any change there. Plus with the addons, I think we'd be disinclined to release them anyway, but one never knows - that's up to George anyway, not me.

I'm going to agree, I do have this, the demo was recommended by a friend I liked it enough to play it. Though I've NEVER finished it.

So that wasn't really 3DRealm's excuse for a trailer? Thank God!

That "trailer" for the Duke Nukem game you speak of was meant to be nothing more than background noise in the booth on a show floor. Someone released it as a "trailer" when it was NEVER meant to be that.

I realized that too.

It made me cringe reading all of the hateful garbage people were spewing on kotaku and other blogs when it was mislabeled as a 'trailer'. Some people just seem to lack the ability to put things in perspective instead of taking them at face value and shitting all over it in some knee-jerk reaction.

I get it. The people were just supposed to hear ONLY the music (Like, after the press conference), and the 7 minutes of moving still pictures were just a side project by a possibly bored and photoshop-loving 3DRealms employee which was never meant to be shown. I understand.
You have to admit. It's pretty funny.

Back on topic: We don't even have a quarter of the maps in ranked yet! Lets get the remaining ones first (Babe Land, Hotel Hell, that one map that I mentioned before but forgot now) then we can talk about DukeLC (Like the pun, BTW?)

Not quite. 3D Realms didn't have anything to do with that.
