Whoever plays Duke must be dubbed over by Jon St. John. It's just gotta happen, his voice is iconic.

If Michael Bay is involved it's gonna be awesome, I'll go see it twice and then I'll buy the collector's edition DVD. Just like I did with Transformers.

(and thus both opinions have been represented. )

Who do you guys think should play Duke? As Howie Long is probably past his prime to play the part...I'd say John Cena.

You know, my initial reaction was to balk at the mention of John Cena, but after thinking about it, he might be someone to consider. He might be a little young for the character (he's 31, and looks it), and I haven't seen The Marine, but he's got the look, he's got charisma. I don't if he has the acting chops, but a Duke movie is going to rely heavily on the story and dialogue, if it has any chance of being good.

Totally agree. Overdubbing your lead character through an entire film might be possible, but it doesn't really seem fair on either actor. Doing it Beowulf style on the other hand is perfect - you get the distinctive Duke look, the distinctive Duke sound and best of all, the scope of the film isn't limited in any way. You want Duke on the moon being charged by 300 pig-cops carrying flamethrowers? Its a hell of a lot more viable in full 3d than it is trying to make that happen in live action

Yes this could be a very cool video game movie if done Beowulf style. They "can" get Duke looking right if done this way.

This could, as many things, go either way. . . simultaneous release with DNF?
Spoiler:

CGI would be the more or less ideal way to go. . .

Also, the fact that Radar Group is involved makes me feel better. Is this what Radar will be doing now: making movies?

I think it would certainly be the best way to realise Duke on the big screen without compromising on the character. That said, the main problem with this approach is money. Looking at the wiki for Beowulf, that film had a budget of $150 million bucks, whereas the upcoming Max Payne film (which was produced by the same bloke who's working on the Duke film) only had $40-50 million to play with. Obviously I don't know where the money was spent in Beowulf, but its something to think about.

EDIT: On the other hand, the highly stylised Star Wars film "The Clone Wars" only cost $8.5 million according to it's wikipedia page, so maybe there IS a happy medium?

Yeah, that was the best news of all really. Radar group have a vested interest in looking after their IP, so I don't think they'll let anyone mess up the Duke.

Yeah just 3 years ago I would of said no to a Duke movie but with todays tech they could pull it off nicely. One thing should be clear thou, there is not a suitable actor to play Duke without some sort of cgi on his appearance. Duke should be somewhat cgi'ed.

Yeah, that seems pretty likely. If Lucasfilm can make a film as pretty as "The Clone Wars" (not that I think the stylised look of that film is right for Duke) on $8.6 million, imagine what they could do for Duke on even $20 million... or $30 million.. or $40 million

No. Hell No. Absolutely NOT, no.

If you're going to do a CGI fest, then make a goddamn animated movie. Otherwise go 1980s hardass if we can make it real, make it real.

Howie Long or John Cena. No bullshitting about the voice. YOU WONT GET PERFECTION.

Re: Oh hells yeah! Duke Nukem Movie may be back on.
I guess I'll be incredibly shocked and surprised if they can make a watchable Duke movie. There's a reason why the project has wallowed in development hell. At least Max Payne lends itself to the translation: it has a story, Max is more of a 3-dimensional character, and the game has a film-influenced style. Duke has none of these things.

Doom had a familiar space/monster hook that could translate to film.
Tomb Raider had an action-adventure hook that could translate to film.
Hitman had a familiar central theme that easily translates to film.

Everything about Duke is a trifle excuse for shooting things. It is barely a step up from Pong: The Movie in this regard. His entire personality is a riff on the 2-dimensional characters of cheesy 80's action flicks, only thinner. Movies like that barely warrant the DTV treatment these days.

Good luck getting financing. I suppose we'll find out how dependent the Duke project is on the success or failure of the Max Payne movie (which looks very cool). My guess is, "entirely dependent".

The marine was turned off after 30 min of me watching it. That was the worst WWE film ever because of the acting of John Cena. But I know for a fact he would never be choosen to play Duke if its done.

Straight up action flick is what would make Duke work. I am serious, none of that crap they put in 300 to make it longer (all the crap with the wife and council which Sparta never really had: retired army maybe). There is no need to make Duke Nukem appeal to any other audience than the male, blood thirsty, sex craving type. If they make a love story in there, so help me God, I will go Postal on them.

hmmmmmmm...Personally I hope its a digital movie...They could even use the assests from DNF and then there can be Jon st Jon doing the voice! This would tie in well with the game having the same appearence.

Seriously, if they are going to make this movie please...please...please...No Wrestlers! Really its just embarrising. Its too hard to take it seriously.

Tripple H was good in Blade Trinity, Some wrestlers arnt that bad is what im trying to say, but I dont think any would suit Duke IMO.

Even if they got someone who isnt a nobody and doesnt even look like Duke but can play the part well then I will be happy.
