There will never be an official statement until it's DONE, or at least very close to. George has learned, he showed us with WID as release date

When the team was let go in May of 09, the game was a year away from completion. We know this because the release date was to be April 2010.
Unless Gearbox is just going to cut a metric Shit ton of material. I believe there's still actual content that needs to be created and programmed in. Then beta testing, the marketing plans,,, It starts to add time. Logic dictates the game is still a year out, especially if Gearbox just made the deal. All aboard the hype train baby!!

Re: Rumor: Gearbox Reviving Duke Nukem Forever
This rumor is probably true
EVERYTHING MAKES SENSE -Gearbox was teased before , in "fan made" trailers ,teasers there was Gearbox logo movie. -Gearbox Software is very close to 3DRealms offices , former Plano, latter Garland, both in Dallas area , ~10 miles apart. Gearbox seems to not be so busy as ID software is which GB already asked and they were turned down , being busy with their own projects , ofcourse , Doom 4, Rage , ID Tech 5 ... etc, big big stuff. Gearbox , was previously doing Duke games so this is just mere "deal extension" , so the developer was having a duke nukem team and it's not a big deal as if you would start a new deal right now. Gearbox are private small developers but quite evolved and are great, 170 employees is surely more than 3Drealms had , and they're the best CHOICE; Valve (steam= DRM) and Epic became selfish , Activision total crap , don't even mention EA , ID software busy , ... there were other choices but Gearbox fits and that is very close to garlad is a huge plus , i think GB also pays a visit to direct the game of course he won't let somebody screw it at the bit end. Released under Gearbox name is a bit weird , OFCOURSE there will be 3DREALMS LOGOS and !!!!!!

This is a RUMOR, while probably one of the most solid sounding ones in a long time... it's still just a rumor. Word of mouth. Nothing has been confirmed, made official.... nothing. Things have not changed. It has always been, and still is "Unless confirmed by George or Scott... take it with a grain of salt. Don't trust any rumors related to DNF." This is not the first time a game site (yes, even IGN and other "reliable" game sites have reported false rumors related to DNF in the past) has run a story about DNF only for it to come up as a rumor later on. Now, I'm not saying this couldn't be true... but, until it is officially confirmed your reaching at strings and trying to say it's a rope that could save you from falling. If we've waited 13 years, what's another month? Randy said he would comment on it at PAX, lets wait until PAX and then go from there.

Re: Rumor: Gearbox Reviving Duke Nukem Forever
Because it draws attention to Gearbox. Who knows, they could be revealing Aliens, or even Borderlands 2..... and this kind of media attention draws far more attention to any presentation Gearbox is doing at PAX.
It's not uncommon for studios to use false news to draw attention to their own projects.

Re: Rumor: Gearbox Reviving Duke Nukem Forever
The same thing has happened to Prey, 3D realms couldn't finish it so they handed it to another studio, and they finished it in a short time span.
And didn't Scott Miller mention: "Good news ahead this year"? Is this the good news, or is it the PAX news? You decide. Anyway I am really excited for this, finally after 13 (Maybe 14, if its released next year) years, we are finally getting Duke Nukem Forever. Just imagine the day we see DNF on shelves.

In 2002 PREY was revived, with development being taken over by Human Head with 3DRealms producing. The game was released in 2006, a four year development cycle. Not really a "short time span".

Re: Rumor: Gearbox Reviving Duke Nukem Forever
Well, if it's true that Gearbox are working on DNF, then that will mean Duke is going to come out in lets say, well if its true that they started work after 3D realms stopped, then its possible that we will see DNF in Mid 2011. Maybe on a blue moon we will see Duke this year (as in Release) , we have a 50/50 chance then.
But, we will see no delays (Unless a Duketard goes "Overboard", and proceeds to sneak into Gearbox and delete every file of DNF in existence), Gearbox have made very good games, such as: Half Life: Opposing Force Halo Combat evolved PC version Borderlands Just to name a few. Lets just hope that it Duke gets out onto Shelves. ---------- Post added at 10:32 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:23 AM ---------- Damien, I thought PREY was started in 1999, I saw some game-play of it on youtube, of George showing someone some Test levels. It looked really good, I couldn't believe what type of stuff they were trying to incorporate into it.

Re: Rumor: Gearbox Reviving Duke Nukem Forever
Personally, I feel Gearbox's best games are Borderlads, and the Brothers in Arms series (specially Hell's Highway).
I've always said any studio that could take over a Duke game would either be Gearbox or Monolith. If they were still around, Ritual would have been the perfect choice. ![]() ---------- Post added at 11:35 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:32 AM ---------- PREY originally started development in 1995 (with work beginning on the engine, storyline and such). And after a few years of problems with the team and getting the tech solid... it looked like it was really coming together. But in mid/late 1999 the game was put on "hold" and shelved. Technically it was very late in 2001 when development began again on PREY with Human Head behind the wheel. But the original build of the game from the 90s is gone.
