Very bizarre client bug..
Or at least I think its one...
Here's the scoop. When I join my own Prey server, I loose all ability to use keyboard controls on the client machine except the escape key... Alt-tab works fine, and if I try to make changes to my controls, the keypresses are recognised, but have no effect in-game (including if I quit my server and start a single-player game or join another server) until the whole client is restarted. The mouse controls work just fine, and remapping them takes immediatly. This issue only happens when I join my own server.. When I join any server outside of mine, the controls are just fine. I would also like to note that there are some extra steps that evidently happen when joining my server, as the pause is longer, and the game actually drops to the main screen, shows a console box similar to what you'd see when quake3 loads up. Then the Prey splash screen shows up, and finally the map splashscreen shows up and the map starts loading. I've also noticed my prey server doesn't show up in the LAN box when I select that on my client. Shouldn't it show up both on the internet and on my LAN like my q2 server does, or is it just one or the other? Setting net_LANServer "0" does nothing, only stops the heartbeat. I still can't see it in my client window under LAN. Other people that join my server don't seem to have a control problem, and gameplay has been deemed adequate, so I don't think its my server, but just in case, here's the config file: Here's my server.cfg file. // Prey server config // Date created: 07-24-2006 //File resides in /root/.prey/base si_name "Redrum's House of Pain (LINUX)" si_serverUrl "www.vogelefamily.info" si_maxPlayers "8" net_LANServer "0" si_spectators "1" si_pure "1" g_voteFlags "0" net_serverMaxClientRate "32000" net_master0 "preymaster.humanhead.com:27655" si_usePass "0" net_serverRemoteConsolePassword "XXXXXX" net_allowCheats "0" si_warmup "0" si_teamDamage "1" si_timeLimit "15" si_fragLimit "20" si_idleServer "1" si_gameType "deathmatch" si_map "game/dmsphere" net_serverDownload "0" spawnServer I use the following command on my server: cd /usr/local/games/prey . /preyded +set sv_punkbuster 1 +exec server.cfg My client is a generic install with no configuration changes. My Prey Server and my client are both on the same network, ie: 192.168.1.X

Re: Very bizarre client bug..
I'd like to add that if one types 't' they can talk as well... Only the game controls don't respond... weird.

Strange - I had exactly that problem sometimes with the demo , but I was not really able to reproduce it and find the problem. I thought that this happens, because I run the prey-client through wine, but I could not verify that, because I don't have a Windows-Installation. |

Re: Very bizarre client bug..
This is just an "off the cuff" suggestion but try changing the net port setting on your client machine to something other than default.

lol, I'm just running it that way to test the system... I haven't found a good resource yet on how to set up the server non-root, and still have it start the dedicated server on boot, and keep it up if it crashes... Know of any sources? And yeah, I'm running it through wine, so at first I thought it was a "focus" issue. But evidently it isn't, because it still registers the keypresses, and "talk" works, it just doesn't apply it to the game. |
