Hah. An idiot "wrastler" is trying to sue a multi-million dollar game publisher because it resembles his name? Yet another example that wrestlers are as dumb as a tube sock filled with urinal cakes (if "The Scorpion King" wasnt enough proof) To think some people wonder why I never watched the shit..

"Kevin's girl" (and Jokke_r) said that frivilous lawsuits were not possible in Finland. If that's correct, then the government is suppressing what is a right in the U.S. If "j" is correct, and frivilous lawsuits are allowed, then obviously the government isn't supressing anything, and some Fins are ignorant of the law there. I have to go by what a Finnish person says.

Also, the compensation for damage you get for suing someone and winning are not as astronomical in Finland as they are in the USA. It's not an economic jackpot to sue. You can expect to be adequately compensated, but it won't jet-set you and your dog.
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">The damages in suing can get astonomical because they're based on intangibles-- compensation for pain and suffering, and punitive damages. In the case of punitive damages, the bigger the company (a la McDonalds), the more it takes to punish them. But this is beside the point. Greed is suing anyone falsely for the purposes of cashing in, no matter what the amount.

Now... hopefully neither of you will sue each other for the insults you've been throwing around. "Idiot", "Bigot", "Grow up", can you honestly call that good debate?
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">The "bigot" label is applicable to someone who calls Americans stupid, greedy bastards, and is especially erroneous when citing a lawsuit that 99% of the U.S. population thinks ridiculous as well. Kevin's girl is merely repeating an obnoxious stereotype. But I should have labeled the actions, and not the person making them. Thanks for the condescension.

And if you think that what I said wasn't true, sorry. People do sue ALOT in America. They probably do in every other country as well.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">You're welcome!

Now... maybe the rule is, that one person in twenty million is a Stupid Greedy Person who can start a Frivolous Lawsuit. This rule would apply globally, whether the law in the country allows it or not.

There are five million people in Finland. With this number, about 0.25 stupid greedy people can exist within the population. Were that just one stupid greedy person, s/he would have to be a mini-person, who would probably make more money starring in Austin Powers movies than by suing people.

In USA, there are roughly 280 million people; which opens up the possibility for 14 stupid greedy persons to exist within the population. Doesn't that quite correlate with the number of frivolous lawsuits over there?

Actually Norway was in some UN statistics or whatever made to be the country people would have a better life in. I think it's pretty much crap anywhere, it's all what you are used to

Why someone would sue something with an unintended likeness in name though is beneath me. Has he even copyrighted Maxx Payne? which isn't even the same thing? Maybe the rules are funked, but I don't give this guy much of a chance Let God sort him out...

i said thank god something like this ain'y possible in finland ( im not reffering to "frivolous lawsuits")

but stupid lawsuits cos most people would just laugh at them and say they were stupid and if they wan't some stupid thing like this to go through he'd haveto move to america...

and i am entitled to my opinion and i think the american government and how things are run there is really fu**ed up...

and the right to have a gun is just stupid aswell what the hell woul a guy do with a hand gun. shoot someone ofcourse. he says i need it for protection??? to protect him from what. other people with guns. where id they get their guns. you see things like that should be stopped before they start cos now it is impossible to take the guns away from the people... and lot's of people get killed over this...

why do you think finland is the best country to live... sure we have lot's of taxes. And it's not maybe as cheap to live here. but we don't actually have many people without homes and stuff we have very good wellfare or whatever and shit. so id say im pretty happy to live in finland

Re: Max Payne sued
And in the end, this wrestler won't win the lawsuit because he only gets compensated if the courts decide that people could possibly mix up the game max payne and the wrestler maxx payne. about 25 years ago, the firearms manufacturer beretta tried to sue Chevrolet for naming one of their cars the "Beretta" The courts said chevy was ok because no one could possibly mistake a car for a hand gun, so obviously the names weren't competing, and people weren't buying the car because it was named after the handgun. In these cases the courts award people if they think that the products could be mistaken for each other, or if someone should be paying royalties. Obviously in this case, the wrestler and the game won't get mixed up, and Remedy is obviously not borrowing something that needs royalties, it's a common name, and not even spelled the same.

Oh well, it's no worse than Remedy/Take 2/3Dr or whoever threatening the Wachowski Brothers over Bullet Time, which as far as I'm concerned is intellectual property of the Matrix and not the MP franchise. It was only a matter of paperwork, not what the MP franchise created.

Considering the "Spike TV" nonsense, the wrestler has a chance.

It's true that in UN's list of "best countries to live" Norway was 1st and Finland was 14th, even USA was before us.

In other list "most guns/100 people" USA is 1st and 2nd is Finland.

But still, I'm happy living here and I wouldn't move to USA, mainly because it's so different country compared to Finland.

We have had cases where people have sued tobaco industry because they got cancer, but all of them have losed their cases and payed legal fees after that. Now we have warning stickers on cigaret boxes, that's all.

But in some cases America's laws and punishments are better than ours, like with rapers, in America they can get life sentence when in some cases here they doesn't even have to go to prison.

Listen to this guy:

"I left wrestling to come home to Utah and be with my family and I find myself in the biggest battle of my life — to save my identity," said the ex-fighter, whose real name is Darryl Peterson. "They stole something from me that I'm not going to give up."

WHAT A LOSER!!!!! He was probably crying during this interview. "They stole...sniff sniff...my identity...sniff."

Re: Max Payne sued
The guy has to prove that they purposefully made use of a persona he "created" in order to benefit from it. Since he admitted in an interview that he took the name "Maxx" from Max Headroom, which he was a fan of, he hardly created the name. He claims that "film noir" is a major aspect of his character, somehow I doubt this guy ever heard of film noir before someone read him the description of the game. Finally, let's do a comparison:

Fat ugly guy with long greasy hair in a clown suit bouncing around with other guys in a canvas roped-off ring in choreographed stunts involving various wrestling gimmicks.

Slim undercover cop with short hair in dark slacks and leather jacket running through the city's underworld seeking vengeance for the murder of his family by criminals, no body slams or DDT's, just simple bullet through the head.

Yeah, I can see similarities there. Considering that most of the people who played Max Payne probably never heard of this guy before the lawsuit, I can't see how anyone with a brain can say they could possibly benefit by making an imitation of this guy. If they were gonna copy anyone from wrestling, wouldn't it have been someone like Hogan, or The Rock, maybe someone the world would recognize? I think Maxx took too many fake blows to the head, maybe strangled once too much on the ropes, got a little brain damage, if he was even that bright to begin with.

I don't think it is Americans in general that are sue-happy, it is just the outlandish stuff like this that grabs the media attention. We get nutjobs like that up here in Canada too.

Well even if this guy name Maxx Payne was able to go to court with his case. I highly daught that he would get very far with it. Espescially since using someones name isn't really a major thing anyway. This guy obviously just wants some way to get some money, and this was the only thing he could think of.
