Prey Super Trailer Released
You've asked for more Prey footage, and we're here to deliver. Available right now on IGN.com is an exclusive brand spanking new trailer for Prey. Weighing in at about 3 minutes 45 seconds, this new trailer contains a lot of footage that you haven't seen before. We don't want to spoil it all here in this announcement for you, so we'll just let you check it out.

The video was produced and directed by Jeron Moore for 3D Realms. In addition to the video, there is an article by Jeron entitled, "The Making of the Prey Super Trailer" in which Jeron goes into detail on the creation of the video, and shows some of what goes into making one of these things. The full article is over at IGN, but here's one small clip from it you might find amusing:

"The live action footage was shot at the end of May 2005. My location of choice? Vasquez Rocks State Park – about 45 minutes north of downtown Los Angeles. Star Trek fans, this is the same exact location Captain James T. Kirk did battle with the Gorn captain (ST:TOS – “Arena,” 1966). I thought it appropriate we bring Tommy to this location… he and Kirk would have either hit it off really well, or ended up kicking each other’s asses."

This new stuff is hot, so make sure and head on over to IGN and check it out the trailer, as well as the making of article right away. We think you'll really enjoy this.

That trailer gave me gooose bumps. The first part with the grandfather was a bit corny but the game has a much more "a live" feeling with voices and that music is just awsome.

All, the video aspect ratio is WRONG. Jeron is calling IGN to hopefully get it fixed. So, that's why it looks squished in from the sides. Jeron said he spent a lot of time on the phone with IGN trying to make sure that when the video was compressed by them, they'd maintain the proper aspect ratio..but, despite all efforts, it still got screwed up. Sigh...

Nice looking trailer! Many thanks, 3D Realms and Human Heads! Though try not to spoil us with too many in game footages.

The 2 scenes of interest was at the beginning when we see Tommy sitting by himself and remembering the words of his grandfather. It seemed like he was fustrated and became upset and angry as he threw some stuff. I hope we'll get to know why Tommy has rejected his heritage, as this is killing me as to why he is rejecting his heritage. I hope that he embraces it at the end of the game, as it is a shame for someone to reject their heritage and block off their cultural background. Especially his Native American culture, which I find to be one of the most unique.

Also, towards the end, we get to see a better shot, and in more detail, of "The Sphere". I don't know if it was me, but towards the end (Where it shows The Sphere heading towards Earth) did that Sphere just talk? I think it said "Do you really think you can come all this way on your own?"

I think them are "fighting words".

Well, I won't have to bother my wife tonight because I just {edited: too much info} after watching that trailer!

I really liked the live action intro. It was really well done. Makes me want to see a "Prey" movie now.

And Gamexstream is now Playtriton! Nice. I'll go check them out now too.
Edit: Not much to check out yet.

Awesome job as usual 3dr, can't wait to play "Prey".

I first saw this trailer this past Monday. I was quite impressed, and I know the game pretty well. To me that's the mark of a good trailer guy. If you can make someone who knows the product excited about the game from a trailer, it's good work.

Yeah, it was. But the game footage looks excellent. There's one interesting bit in there that shows a portal attached to a small metal cube... I could see modders doing interesing stuff with that for multiplayer. Nice shot of the dyson sphere too, at the end.

Thanks for that hi res link also Yatta!

I'd like to know the reasoning behind renaming Gamexstream to Play Triton. The naming seems a bit strange.

I'm curious because Scott has talked at length about naming conventions and naming products that make sense and sell the product. Play Triton sounds cool but it's not something I'd guess was an application to dl gaming media.

Kinda like "Sonic" restaurants. For the life of me, Sonic has to be the worst name for a restaurant chain. PERIOD. It has nothing to do with food imho and it reminds me of the hedgehog, not fast food.

It's roundabout logic. "Service with the speed of sound" was their slogan from their early use of speaker boxes. The original name of the company was already copyrighted so they went with a sound related name that was new to the 1950s, hence "Sonic".

One other thing I forgot to mention. I wasn't in the straight frame of mind to really comment, I was way too blown away to think properly.

What really made that scene was the believability of the realism of the characters through the voice overs. This is a tribute of course to the actors that delievered them, and the choice to place those paticular lines in those paticular moments. Whoever designed this trailer definatly has a film background, becuase this trailer is on par with hollywood's work, and in a lot of places, blows a lot of hollywood's work out of the water.

Yeah, I just upgraded to a Nvidia 6800 extreme card for "Prey".

The game looks wicked sick man. I'm actually looking forward to the outer space shuttle battles. Multiplayer with that map is gonna rock.

Pretty decent vid, but a trifle too corny for me(The grandpa's dialogues). best thing was the awesome new animation for the 3DR logo, and also the nice Dyson Sphere at the end. The portion which showed the moving floors and walls was very nice too.

Prey is a lot like Tivo -- it's hard to explain to someone who hasn't tried it, but once you've tried it, there's no going back. ;-)

Even the mew trailer is a poor representation of what the game plays like, IMO. There's such a radical change in the way you must think about FPS's it's like starting over in many ways.

Especially in multiprey...just got done with a three hour session and I haven't had so much deathmatch fun since the 90's. The gravity zones, flipping gravity, wall walks, portals, and spirit walk all combine and present new challenges that stretch well beyond what we've encountered before. And the best part is, it's awesome fun.

Another long day... bed time...

I really don't understand how gameing companys can release trailer called "Super Trailer" on a gameing site like ign in poor quality and poor view size. First impression counts. A trailer should be advertising for your game, creating attention, desire, interesting and action (to buy it) so it should be worth releasing a full resoution trailer.

I'm still not hyped - still looks like another xyz-doom-engine-powered-fps. Best thing in this trailer was the 3D Realms logo. Nearly no new stuff in it and no cool scenes showing gravity, spiritwalk or portals - and thats really bad because these things should be Preys unique selling proposition.

Good luck next time.

That was awesome - The organic parts of the ship looks so cool and that part where the room kind of moves was totaly kicka$$
Also the fact that portals can be everywhere (eg. in that box) can be the foundation for some very cool gameplay tricks

I hope they release this trailer in HD some time - That ign crap doesn't do it justice
