So what's the deal with 3DR and the "new" Apogee?
I've heard that the new Apogee is a separate company, but the old Apogee/3DR games on GoG.com are being sold under the Apogee label. Is there some sort of agreement between the "new" Apogee and 3DR that let's them sell 3DR/old Apogee's published games?

Well, since they are doing it, obviously there is an agreement of some kind in place.

I know that; I'm just wondering what the extent of their agreement is. Do they have access to all of 3DR's IPs and games, or just some?

From what I understand, they are 2 seperate companies. So you've got:

Apogee Software, Ltd.: the old Apogee, now known as 3D Realms.

And,

Apogee Software, LLC: the new Apogee, which is a completely new company (founded in 2008) that was granted the license to the old Apogee brand/logo, as well as some old game properties in order to create reboots. They don't actually OWN these properties, nor are they selling the older games through GOG. That's still the "old Apogee" doing that.

You are mostly correct PimPamPet, it actually IS the new Apogee that is responsible for Duke3D, ROTT, etc on GoG.com and the new Apogee's legal name is Apogee Entertainment, LCC with Apogee Software, LLC as a d/b/a.

I think what Darkman 4 want to know is which IPs the new Apogee has access to, but we do not know what their license covers other than Duke, ROTT and (apparently) Cosmo. Some of the games that Apogee published over the years they do not own the IPs to this would include Commander Keen which belongs to id Software.

On a side note, it is pretty cool to see the name Apogee again, in whatever context they're using it. Though 3D Realms was also always a great name, it's impossible to even hear the word "Apogee" without getting nostalgic images of all those old pixelated sidescrolling characters hopping around on the screen.

yeah, that's what I'm interested in. Do they have access to all of the games they have licenses for, or just certain ones, like DN3D?
