Ranked matches impossible...?

I just got an X360 few days ago and bought Duke3D on the XBLA. I finished the singleplay and got used to the console controls pretty quickly. Now I'd like to play ranked matches online but I can't -- there are no players.

What's with this, am I doomed not to get the rest of the achievements (to unlock the last few pictures to the gallery and enjoy the game overall)? I could get into a game two days ago but it just hang up in the lobby. It had full 8 players and it said the game was starting but nothing happened for five minutes.

So is this it? If there's a chance there will be other players, I still can't play it?

Ranked match works fine here ( had a game about two days ago). The freezing could be a couple of things:

1.
You may need to re download the game. Delete it from your hard drive and just re download it. I've had a few hang ups while in lobbies with XBLA games and re downloading seems to work.

2.
OPEN YOUR PORTS. Most people do not do this and it can cause all sorts of annoying problems. A lot of arcade games and\or 360 retail games require that you open ports on your router, otherwise get ready for freezing while hosting\connecting to a game.

The new worms game on live is a good example. If you don't have your ports open, good bloody luck playing it online.

I didn't mean it hangs up as if it crashes since it doesn't -- people leave and join and I can see them do that, it's just that the game never starts even when the lobby is full and everyone is ready.

My router doesn't even support blocking ports and my other router has them all open by default. I can try to add a rule if anyone can tell me what ports it wants to use.

A lot of Xbox live arcade games do this - Castle crashers, worms, worms 2, etc. Deleting the game and redownloading it can fix the problem.

Ranked match is working fine and dandy here.

Ranked matches are not as actively played as they used to be, but you'll always find a working game when you wait a bit. I've played 2 matches last week, and both of them went pretty well. However, I always find Xbox Live to be a bit laggy, the ping there is always higher than on my PC games.

It isn't Xbox Live, but the game itself and the people's connections. The netcode for the game isn't great and when people have a bad connection it bogs the game down.

I had exactly the same problem. You need to find a freind who is willing to "Help" you acheive this by "Being where you need them to be". Waiting for random players is a pain and you can bet your last two cents that when someone does come along they are a die hard player with high rankings on the leader board and you will end up with 1 kill to their 15.

Its tough, find a freind to help is my advice.

No if you go on in the evenings-night (pacific time) you will always find lots of noobs but the only problem is laggy players + bad net code as it is. LA rumble games and Stadium games are always fun to play normaly though, you'll get kills no matter what if it's a filled match.

Why disrespect Duke so much , did you download it purely for achivments? find that game!

I had a great game last night we had a full game on Stadium, there were a lot of people playing yesterday it was weird, prolly cause the game is %50 off this week.
