Duke Nukem The Series Teaser Trailer Released

For those of you that don't regular Duke4.net, or havent seen it yet, I have just put up a teaser trailer for an up and coming animated series (unofficial, IE its fan fiction) based on Duke Nukem.

Set twelve years after the events of Duke Nukem 3D, Duke is relaxing when the alien bastards return under a new commander... and this time it's personal!

Duke Nukem : The Series Teaser Trailer

Since Vinny and I released the Duke Nukem video "The Aliens Return" many moons ago, we have been working on a Duke Nukem project that would give Duke fans something to chew on. We had many ideas, some things didnt work, others were way too demanding in terms of work flow, and some were lost in computer malfunctions. But this series will see the light of day in a very reasonable amount of time. On track for a release come Hell or high water.

Im not going to curse myself with WID or Stay Tuned. Just know, every day im working on this. Multi-tasking in sound, writing, animation, and editing to get this thing out. I hope you guys enjoy it, as it's a labor of love for Vinny, myself, and our small band of voice actors. Which, by the way, if you're interested in voice acting, drop me a PM. We still have plenty of roles that need filling!

The release of this teaser is ironically, just slightly, late. The goal was to have it ready for "D-Day" as a surprise, unfortunatly some rendering problems in my video editing software forced me to take a few extra hours to track down some problems. So it was out early morning June 7th... Close enough?

Beyond the Duke 3D intro recreation the animation was poor at best and the drawing style doesnt seem fit for Duke Nukem.

Honestly, not impressed in the slightest.

There are a couple of clipping issues, but im not seeing anything I would call poor in the animation. You could make the arguement for lack of detail, but that's a matter of taste, and not related to the animation, but of the objects themselves.

Everything seems overly blocky, and it gives duke a very unreal aesthetic I'm not too keen with. Particularly, his arms don't look very proper.

New user, long time lurker - I just had to register to say how awesome this is going to be! I've always thought Duke would make a great series or movie, and here you are making it a reality! I really like the style, the colors you picked just make the whole thing pop and it's great looking.

Can't wait to see the full thing! You have a new fan.

Couldnt you make a Duke Nukem sitcom?

Duke Nukem - The retirement years, He has hung up his boots and now lives in a retirement home.

It may be corny and cheesy but imo a role that would be well suited to Duke Nukem.

That made me laugh Rapture. Ol' Duke Nukem in a wheel chair being escorted by buxom nurses.

Goes to stand, trips, breaks a hip. Problem is, his hips are made of plutonium, and so they randomly explode. The End.

I like the sitcom idea, but so not living in a retirement home! Even if he'd ever hang up his boots, he wouldn't go out like that, no way! The Duke we all know would rather die before anyone had to help him get dressed or wipe his ass!

Xgthug, didnt your mother teach you any manners? Criticism like Marioman, and others, have given is one thing. I can improve with honest opinions. Laying down a blanket statement like you did does not yield any positive effect. Specificity would be appreciated.

Almost forgot, I wanted to address this.

I'll be "tweaking" The Duke design as I go into the animation phase on the first episode. It wont be a drastic change, but hopefully the improvements will be to your liking. Basically pulling the character a little closer to the Duke3D iteration of him.

Yes and Yes. Vinny is currently doing voice work for the first bunch of episodes.

The way things are shaping up right now, episodes will follow a serial format, similar to shows like Doctor Who. Some stories will be entirely standalone and not go beyond a single "part." But, for example, the first story will go for about six/seven parts/episodes. It seems to be the most natural format to take with Duke, allowing for a helping of humor, action, story, drama, and suspense in even measure per-part without over extending our welcome or not delivering enough material at a time.

As the teaser says, the website should be launching June 24th, production is picking up all across the board right now, and im pretty excited to get some additional media put together for said launch. Its looking to be right on target.

Im genuinely excited to get the first episode out there soon.

Fantastic teaser commando! I honestly love the style that you have gone for and it seems like it will turn into a great series that I will regularly watch.

Fan made projects like this keep the duke nukem character alive. Just because 3D Realms can't do him justice with DNF (13 years and waiting) does not mean duke has to disappear and be forgotten.

Kind of like how a movie with Robert Patinson playing Kurt Cobain in an upcoming film, or a legion of emo boys playing Nirvana covers is keeping Kurt Cobain alive.

We have an internal release date for sometime within the next 30 or so days for the first episode. This is set back from an initial release date due to unforseen issues with voice actor availability and a few production issues.

Well the aliens from Duke Nukem 3D are the predominate force to be on display, along with a few new creature concepts.

As far as Proton and the likes? Well, they're definitly on the table for returns, I have a rough idea involving Proton for the end of the series, to bring it full circle. I wont say anything beyond that, though.

I suffered a major harddrive failure at the begining of August, and my backup was not 100%. We're still putting the pieces together, but we intend to deliver something regardless of this setback. Also, one of my voice actresses has been hospitalised and is unable to perform at this time.
