Re: Nicknames?
Hmm, welp... Might as well put mine up here.
It all started back in the days of deathmatching in Descent and Duke Nukem 3D. I particularly enjoyed hunting people to the death. This was is an art that I still enjoy today in deathmatching. In which, that is the real originality of my name today. Most people will think that I'm obsessed with dinosaurs or Jurassic Park. Although the velociraptor is my favorite dinosaur and Jurassic Park is one of my favorite movies, the real reason for my name was the 'hunt' factor in deathmatch. So, of course it (Raptor) was taken by 3 million people on AOL a couple years ago, so I added the '3434.' Since I've been all around the Internet, Raptor3434 is taken on virtually everything! Whether it be MSN web servers, UBB message boards, 6 different Internet Service Providers, to ICQ. The thing about my name is that it stays the same! If you see a Raptor3434, it's always me. Raptor3434 will probably always exist as long as I do. So there you have it... latez all! ------------------ -=RAPTOR=- [email protected] ICQ #: 12088845 ------------------ -=Raptor's Dominion=- members.aol.com/raptor3434/index.htm *Games, Sounds, Contests, Utilities, and More! |

Re: Nicknames?
Draco: short for Draconian, meaning over the edge and evil. For the most part, that fits me quite well..
I used to be Draconis, from MW2, but there were so many people who used it too I gave it up. I was Draco (and still am) when I signed up at the forum but I used Lord Draco or LD for some other places. Now that you all know you must die... just kiddin'. ------------------ -Draco <A HREF="http:// http://www.come.to/Lord_Draco " TARGET=_blank> http://www.come.to/Lord_Draco </A> [This message has been edited by Draco (edited 01-10-99).]

Mine's the nick I use for Deathmatching. I dunno where I got it from. Could be because I'm pretty good at sniping at people from rooftops while gaming.

Was listening to Foo Fighters CD when first logging on to TEN back in early 96...
BTW I'm not a big fan of the group. People on IRC ask me "Hey did you go to the Foo Fighters concert last week ???" .. yeah... But it would be stupid to change nicknames now. On the internet that's usually the only thing people recognize you by, so if you change it, it's like you're a stranger.. ------------------ <CyberCarrasco> My country is Brazil!!! You Country???? |

Re: Nicknames?
It started on one of my birthdays, I got a Gumby birthday card (Monty Python 'My Brain Hurts' Gumby not that weird clay thing) I tought it would be a good idea to scan the picture in and make a Quake player model skin with it. I liked the idea of playing as a Gumby and I kept going on about them, so eventually I just used the nickname Gumby.
I recently found that there are a HUGE amount of people calling themselves Gumby on the internet, so I might change it to I.B Gumby or J.Y Gumby or something. |

Re: Nicknames?
Mine came from a movie that I found quite interesting. My other name that I use for deathmatching is ace potato. I like it because it sounds corny, I am the arch rival of my friend ace tomato, and it looks really cool in deathmatch play, exspecially in SW. when one of my friends would call himself "his nads" for the fun of it, then when he killed me, something like "ace potato got beaten like a red-headed step child by his nads". every body in the room would start to fall over laughing. its great.

I actually thought of giving myself the nickname 'The Mischievous Ninja'(in deference to my love of SHADOW WARRIOR)when I first registered here, but then on second thought I felt it was a bit long so I decided to use my real name...

My reason is that, well... my name is Mikael ,but all my friends call me Micke.
I've been thinking of changing the nickname here (I don't want the same as the real one), to Molo or Willie. What do you guys think? And, Quarryman, cool idea! I also like those stone-digging figures! |

Re: Nicknames?
Whoa... I'm bringing this OLD thread up after awhile, huh?
Anyway, as for my story, it all started back when I first began deathmatching in Descent. (Remember, Raptor3434? LOL seems like a long time ago, huh?) I originally wanted my name to be RazorWing (because I wanted it to have something to do with flying a la Descent), but it juuuust wouldn't fit. So then I changed it to Talon. I kept this name for the looooooongest time when all of a sudden, I heard about Prey and how the main character was "Talon Brave" So then I was like, "ah crap" and I wanted to change it. I felt being called Talon once Prey was out, would be like calling yourself Duke back in the Doom2 days and then having Duke3d come out. So I had to change it. (I guess I did it a bit prematurely huh? ) Anyway, I changed it to DarkTalon and wanted to change my AOL nick to this also, but it was taken! I couldn't believe it. Not wanting to give up my newly changed nick, I just changed the "o" to a "y" and then tried it. Still taken!! Damn those RPG peeps on AOL! Damn them! Ready to give in, I added a "1" to the end and that's why my nick is DarkTalyn1. Of course, the one is only there some of the time, in deathmatches I often just go as DarkTalyn. Hm, that's it. BTW Kingomen, you read Piers Anthony as well? Cool! -D.T.

Re: Nicknames?
Now that I'm using my nickname on here, I can explain where it came from...
Long, long ago (about seven or so years) I needed a nickname for CB radio. It was something I was into at the time to talk to my friends at night. Everyone on CB radio has a handle (as they call them there) and I needed one. I tried several nicknames, none of which I liked. One day, I was strolling past some National Geographic magazines, when I saw some stingrays on the cover. I suddenly realized that that is quite a cool name for a nickname. I've used it ever since. As anyone can tell you, I'm not about ready to change my nick either. I've seen other people change their nickname because they wanted a change. Personally, I don't have any plans for changing my nickname. ------------------ www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Pines/2407/ Dopefish! |

Re: Nicknames?
No no no, I'm not talking about on this board or anything... I'm talking about back when Rap and I used to play Descent with eachother in summer '95 (or somewhere around there) It feels like a long time ago considering all the years full of deathmatches we've played against one another in numerous games.

Re: Nicknames?
I got my lame ass name when I first slipped in the DW forums as a newbie. There were some weird people back then, and I wanted to remain as unoticed as possible. I also have no creativity or imagination, another reason I have this name. But when you think about it, not many people choose this name cause it's so boring. For some reason, this name stuck. Don't ask me why.
I aslo use Eric in some places, cause it's, like my name. |

Re: Nicknames?
My real name is Matthew, and there was this guy at school who couldn't pronounce it properly. He said Maffu... And I started using it as my build sig when I made Duke Maps... Now I use it everywhere, although lately it has become case sensitive "MAffU".
Over at Cyberdelia we have Sig Testing Grounds... That's where I try to make some cool sigs. Here's one of my latest: The idea of Sig Testing originated in DW forums when we had HTML, that's why I never started one here... :P |

I got mine when I learned the word 'pinnacle'. Whenever I said it i would always screw up and pronounce (and spell) it 'pycinal' (pike-ine-el. (long i sound) saying pik-ine-el (short i) was too hard) So everybody (including my teachers) started calling me 'Pycine'. Pronounced: Pike-ine

Re: Nicknames?
Here's how mantis came to be.
I've been running cross-country track for the past 4 years in high school and a little before the beginning of freshman year, the team worked out at one of the college's swimming pool sometimes at night. After the workout, we used to play some basketball in the deep part of the pool. Since, I'm a fairly small guy, I guess I looked kind of funny treading water and swimming around crazily for the ball and trying to shoot it. So, then in the locker room when some of the teammates were joking around with me, one of the seniors at the time said "Don't say that, he's the praying mantis." I don't know how, but the name stuck. It's weird how it all started, but it caught onto everyone on the team, and most kids and some teahcers at school call me mantis. Anthony "Mantis" Miceli |

Mine, it comes from the Simpsons, in the 132th Episode Spectacular, where they looked back at the old Simpsons.
Troy said "As wacky as they were, there was no one wackier than Captain Wacky, later renamed Homer." In a report on Homer (the greek) for school, I used the quotation and got caught After that, it kind of stuck, and I like it, because it reflects my personality. Re: Nicknames?
Don't know why I didn't think of this sooner, but Sinsear, did you know that sincere actually means "Without Wax"? I like to sign my letters like that, as it's more 'wacky'
It comes from 2 centuries ago, when the King's letters were signed and sealed with the King's Seal. These used a special kind of substance that was a royal wax, but consider above all other waxes. If some michievous malcreants tried to read the letters, they'd have to duplicate the seal so nobody would notice - and they'd use regualar everyday wax. Hence, the phrase Sincere (sans-cire) meant legitimate. Without Wax, Captain Wacky (now THAT's informative!) ------------------ Visit my Duke Action Figures News site at http://members.tripod.com/~CaptainWacky1/intro.html |
