Re: Prey and Vista 32bit
Do you have UAC enabled? If so, run the game as administrator.

User Account Control, it works like permission rights on Linux/OS-X. Even as administrator you have to manually allow certain programs to execute under Vista.

Right click the game executable and select the "Run as administrator" option, and let us know if that worked.

the best way to get things done on a single person machine is to disable UAC.

UAC is annoying as hell, however the extra security it offers cannot be ignored.

Most people ignore it anyway by clicking accept without thinking or reading

SP1 tones down the popups, which are too frequent, but overall UAC is a good move to the right direction.

Oh it is a move in the right direction however people that use computers are generally too stupid and just click accept.

Re: Prey and Vista 32bit
For the inexperienced user, UAC is definately a plus, but for anyone remotely experienced, it simply makes the PC a nightmare to use.

Worse still, if you disable UAC, you're left with warnings 'Your computer may be at risk'. If you disable this warning message, you lose the other warnings managed by this system (Anti-Virus is out of date, etc.)

Having said that, UAC has it's uses, but it should not be being forced down my throat. An optional module, removable by choice, without further interruption would be much more appreciated.

I've been used to it for years with Linux (and now OS X) so it doesn't bother me as much, however I could understand how a pure-windows user would get irritated by it.

It isn't forced, since you can disable it. Microsoft probably should have had a "enable UAC?" in the vista install though, but most advanced users will disable it anyway if it's an issue.

I'd keep it on myself, but I use too many programs and games which conflict with it. That and I can take care of my O/S myself, I don't need a babysitter.

For work use though UAC is a godsend. Makes shit so much easier.

I have UAC enabled, and I have not really noticed any downsides in using it. Ok, it is too frequent, but that is toned down in SP1, and I guess it is constantly under work. It is not like I'd need it. Same thing with linux, you have to sudo.
