Survival TC
Not shure if there is a thread about this TC, but there should be. Take a look at these new screens for it. They are absolutely unreal!!! http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~amc/foru...0&#entry121315

Amazing... they got their shit together. Damn, that looks good!

I am amazed with the lighting. I think if my tc idea ever gets off the ground, I'll use lighting effects like that. Actually, they seemed to have beaten me to a few of them. Like the soft blue palette for shadows, and a light orange or peach color for light, and using high res sprites for fake lighting effects. I tried a few years ago (back in the dos days) to use lots of sprites at different transparencies to make more natural looking lighting effects. I was inspired by the Sega Saturn version of Duke, which had dynamic lighting. Since there were extreme limitations, it looked like crap. I recently thought of making new tiles for fake lighting effects, but I haven't yet. Maybe I will for my gore/effects pack.

Their work is so damn good, that I'd swear it was a different engine. That has to be some of the best level design.

It looks VERY cool indeed... But if you'd like to catch the Unreal atmosphere, why didn't you just use the Unreal engine then..?
(sorry if this already is explained in your thread in that other forum, i'm too lazy to read such a long post atm... )

Thanks for the kind words - however the Shotgun isn't from Nightfire (Even though I see it looks familiar) We have a modeller on our team but he hasn't kept in touch as of lately so we don't know his position. Hopefully he can model us a nice SPAS-12

edit: But of course it needs optimization. The only thing I like about my map now are those lightbeams coming through the ceiling tbh

The lack of frames of animation, choppy animation, etc. Even if you don't HAVE more frames to work with, remember you have rotatesprite.

Well I do have the models, but there's a large selection of weapons and at the moment it's quite easy for me to set up more for following Episodes (since Survival is episodic now) I'm really not going to spend hours importing intricate animations for each of these weapons since it will just slow the mod down and make the job more difficult If you're using only 2 or 3 weapons than yeah, I would of made the animations more detailed but Survival has alot of weaponry and that translates to alot of hard work in an area I don't think needs it that desperatly. I do appreciate the criticism in any case.

Survival was never dead in the first place, I just don't really talk about it much since I talked way too much about IW v2 too early

But it will be worth polishing this area up right? You could use rotatesprite like MBlackwell said to make it a bit more smoother...

We'll see, but I'm not going to be importing hundreds of frames of animation to make some weapons look a bit smoother. It's a waste of time when it's nice to look at first and then eventually you completly forget about it.

Do you even know what that is? It lets you put sprites on screen. It's not a magic device that suddenly makes weapon animations smooth. Stop saying it like it is.

Don't call me lazy - I've put a shitload of work into this and I'm not going to redo stuff that's fine just so a handful of people can go 'ooh, look how smooth the anims are' and than forget about it 5 seconds later.

Saw the video from a post over at Alejandro's. Very impressive. I was blown away by how good the weapons looked. You can always add more animation frames later, after you have done higher priority stuff and if you have time.

Don't treat me like an idiot :/ I know that much, but I don't see how making the sprites rotate around is supposed to make the animation fantastically smooth. It doesn't even look that great.

You don't have to literally rotate the sprite. You move the sprite to various positions on the screen in little increments to simulate having more frames.
