Question about adding Normal Map Capabilities
Hey. I know that 3D Realms is using a modified version of the Unreal2k4 engine to make DNF, and I know I've read where they implimented normal mapping into the engine.

I'm currently working on a mod with some guys, and we have a couple of very experienced coders. We're trying to impliment normal mapping ourselves.

are we wasting our time? How hard was it to impliment? Any sort of advice would be great!

Yup, you are wasting your time. Since you don't have any access to the engine code and the rendering code in particular you can't do engine changes like that. And even if you would be able to it would be a better choice to make the mod a ut2k7 mod instead unless you are very far along with the development.

My advise would be to either drop the normmapping or aim the mod at a unreal engine 3 game. If the mod is a ut2k4 mod porting it over to ut2k7 would probably be fairly easy as they started the development from the ut2k4 gameplay code.
