How do I play eduke32 in Multiplayer mode?

I was under the impression this was a mod of the game with builtin multiplayer features accessable via the in-game menu, but instead it requires command prompt. My server batch file is set to "eduke32-oldmp.exe -server"
My client bat file is "eduke32-oldmp.exe -connect 127.0.0.1"

(the alternate name instead of just eduke32.exe is based on the fact it's not the latest build, but the latest build has broken multiplayer, so this is actually an older version who's exe file was renamed so you'll remember why you downloaded the older version instead of the newer one)

Unfortunately when I run the server and client on my computer, one or both start to glitch and the controls stop functioning properly. Can someone help me set up so that there are 2 game windows on my comp (one being server the other client) so as to test out multiplayer?
