Disable autorun. I also noticed this, while I played 3-4 game levels and my player's level increased, I disabled autorun to fix running speed.

Alright, in light of these complaints, the Max Speed [100 Speed] is now knocked down 1000 [from 62000 to 61000 for 100 Speed]. 61000 was the original limit in the past, but I figured I'd try 62000 being a cap for the characters intended to be really fast]. The thing I hate is that it's hard to decelerate a little at higher speeds. However now it should be harder for people to just run out of valid space[although I almost never experienced this problem even when Straferunning with a 100 speed character myself].

Be told: this will slow down your slowest characters even more[although hopefully it will not be as noticable as I think it is, because their visible speed stat is still gonna say the same thing as before, but characters will not move quite as fast].

This and mostly other bugfixes to come in the next version[which should hopefully be released within a couple of days, or maybe about 10 hours, I'll have to see :P].

Even then it was a pain to control because all the characters slide everywhere when they stop moving, but i'll wait and see what Misfit does first.

Fixes:

- Monsters will move towards items slightly better than before and and hang less often[aka Pigcops].

- Frozen monsters will now thaw out with 1% of their Max HP instead of 0.

- Artifacts will no longer countdown/operate while a monster is Frozen.

- Shrinking a monster trying to reach an item will no longer bork up their AI routines.

- 100 Speed for characters is now a little slower than before, due to complaints of "run-n'-crush" problems. Speed will also increase in differing amounts per level-up depending on the difficulty level.

- "Old School" monsters no longer drop artifacts[as it should be].

- Monsters now inflict improved Melee Damage which now works in a similar formula to the Player/Character's own. This means being at a high level will no longer protect you fully from Melee attacks.

NOTICE: Remember, I still need Voice Actors/Actresses and Artists for making all of the characters truly unique from each other. If you believe you can help, please tell me/let me know in some way. >___>

Changes:
- If all of your characters die for good[no continues, etc]. You will get a Game Over screen and will go back to the title screen when you press space. This is meant to give more an RPG feel. This means you should save your game[s] often. :P

Aside from a moderate size-reduction on the code, there's not much else in this new version as I was actually taking a break from it. I might still take a break from this depending on what goes on. I have other projects of mine that I will need to work on at some point, so this might go dormant for a while. :P

EDIT: Oh yeah. There is a playlist on the home page with various songs on it for reading over the document. :P

You are doing great impressive stuff!
It might be useful to use version numbers for your upgrades on the homepage and in the filenames, so that interested downloaders could see easier, if they already have a file or not.

Since it is redundant to update something when only one line of code is changed, I need to mention an oddity I found with help from a friend playtesting this:

If you go to E1L2 and end the level with the current version, you'll enter a loop and keep going into E1L2.

To fix this, find "setuserdef[THISACTOR].from_bonus 1" under APLAYER in GAME.CON and just remove it. I forgot to remove this line when I perfected my Game-Over code and it seems to have an odd effect on sectors with a Lotag of 65534 and will loop that level over and over. Sorry guys. :\

Just a minor status update: things are still going, but going slowly, so there's still no real new version up yet. I'm still trying to look around for voice actors and graphics artists to not much luck yet. :\

Sadly I think you are going to be a little hard-pressed. I doubt that artists have become any easier to find now than they were a few years ago.

Heh. Well, basically Naferia is a character, but she's also the main villain of the mod. Essentially, since this mod is an 'alternate universe' story, she's my interpretation of the ultimate queen/leader of the Duke3D Aliens, and that the 'Queen' in Atomic was a 'decoy' to keep Duke from learning of her existance. I've even given the alien race a name, which hasn't been yet mentioned in-game or on the site yet, I'm withholding it and various portions of the plot for now. >_>

EDIT: And really, you should at least give it a look sometime . It was you that basically inspired me to try to remake this mod nearly 3 years after the last attempt died in a HD Crash. It was DNWMD that inspired me specfically. This version is vastly superior to the last three attempts I made on it, so you're probably the biggest outside source of credit, even if you don't really care.

http://www.zxdware.net/NR/ - A new update that isn't just a bunch of bugfixes. Still, it's not much due to my focus on my writing project right now.

- You can no longer grab items while you're in the menu[nor can enemies]. You have to leave the menu to pick them up.

- New items: Small and Large Satchels. Basically the 'Ammo Limit' bonus item[like Max HP, Attack, etc]. Small increases one random ammo limit by one of that ammo-type's pickup. Large does this four times[four randomly picked ammo-limits are increased, possibly one limit being increased four times even].

- A cut down of over 200 unneeded vars, so hopefully I'll have some space now with vars[the only limit really remaining for me now with compile size limits gone].

Anyways, no update as of this post, but likely there will be one later once the testing for the new Lifebar/Rank-Star method come through an all-clear.

I finally, FINALLY got off my arse and looked over some advice Reaper_Man gave me a while back about fixing the "afterimaging lifebars/rank-star" bug/annoyance, and now for the most part it seems that has been finally dealt with[it was mostly me being too lazy or busy with some other feature or thing to get around to it].

The update will probably come up later on though. I'm making sure I can remember all the conditions needed and all for both the player and the monsters' ends of the deal. :P

EDIT: http://www.zxdware.net/NR/ - Updated. Anyone who plays this, lemme know if you see any major oddities with the lifebars and rank stars now. >_>

In addition to all of that, I've also made a handscanner-like switch that will only activate when a specfic character uses it. It will probably need to be worked on more, but another little thing I'm attempting now is to make a new AccessSwitch that will allow you to use a Green Key[or any other colored key if need be] to open doors, etc. It's still getting kinks worked out as I speak though.

- Keypads, Hand Scanners and New Access Switches are available in the game. Keypads are numeric based in this version, Hand Scanners only allow a specific character[or specific characters to access them], and the New Access Switches are for interaction with FOUR new keycard colors: Silver, Brown, Green, and Blood.

- NPCs now glow when Nightvision is on, and they now have their own lifebars[but no rank stars since they don't do anything that relies on having a level right now].

- And probably a couple more little things I forgot.

Well it's still limited with keypad syncing though. However I felt that enough time had passed since the last update, so I updated the mod with the keypads working as is. If I managed to get the full sync support going then it'll be brought up here.

Major updates include:

SHOPS. As seen in the above screenshot, shops are now possible. However you have to spawn a "DEALER" actor and 'use' him to open up and use the default shop. The keys for messing around in the shop will be shown at the bottom of the screen like they are in the Character/Item/System menu.

"Auto-Use Portable Medikit When Injured" option in the system menu. Is set to OFF by default, so enable this if you think you'll be so engrossed in fighting that you'll forget to manually use the medikit, or leave it off for a challenge.

New actors: AIRBUBBLE and AIRBUBBLEGENERATOR. AIRBUBBLE is similar to WATERBUBBLE, except you can collect them to prolong your lungs or Scuba Gear when you get close to them. All WATERBUBBLEMAKERs will become AIRBUBBLEGENERATORs in the classic levels, so E3L1 and several other maps will enable use of them without having to make a test map for them.

Keypads, Handscanners and the Custom-Keyscanners will now activate/deactivate forcefields much like other normal switches do.

Custom-Keyscanners of the same lotag now sync globally over a whole level instead of just syncing the closest unused keyscanner with the same lotag, but you must use lotags from 10001 to 10031 for them to sync perfectly when activated.

Duke, Higa, Cybanis and ESSence now have enemy-kill dialouge[although the latter two don't yet have sounds to go along with them :P] that will show up in the userquote section[where multiplayer messages normally show up].

IMPORTANT: The fall-damage system has been completely redone. You'll take damage in HP% once again as opposed to losing at most just 8 to 61 points. However these changes also include that now you must fall nearly twice as far for instant death to occur.

Various sound-related things changed, fixed and altered. You'll notice them in the game when you play I'm sure. :P

(OH YES, and the main page is updated with pictures of all the listed items, and more items are listed as well as pictures of the Red and Blue Riot Tanks and other such things. Another demo movie will be added to the page very soon as well.)

Can anyone tell me what stands out about these pictures?

I redid most of the old display system! Note that a lot of the character stats and that in the second picture were set via cheating with "setvar" in the console, as there's also no real way anymore to get an hour of time for an artifact. This was done to show all of the changes to where things went, and the powerup timers now use icons instead of words. This is a long-thought change, and DeeperThought is responsible for making me feel compelled to get off my arse and work on this. :P

And yes, remember, there are four new keycard colors, so I included the display icon positions for those in this screenshot. :P

New Radar Feature in progress. This requires you to find a specfic item [Mercury Computer] in order to use it. The arrows represent actors/monsters. The color of the arrow is the same as the palette of the actor.

Heh, for a minute I couldn't figure out how you did that, and then I realized...the Duke icon is always in the dead center of the screen, so it gives you a focal point to base all the calculations on. Still, it must have been/be a little difficult to keep the arrows in the correct positions when the map can zoom in or out and rotate.

Um, that has nothing to do with it as far as I recall.

I basically used the same code as I did for the new lifebars to attach an arrow to each enemy at their base. Only when you have the right conditions met can you see the arrow it at all, and only on the automap. Basically I just used cstat because a flat object is always visible on the map even when it should be invisible.

Oh It's a lot easier than I thought. Essentially, you just put flat invisible arrows on their heads.

More or less yeah, except I left the arrows at their base[feet], not on their heads. Same principle though. :P

New Features/Changes:

Display systems for normal stats, the menus and the shops are changed. This includes proper display of what key will perform a specfic function or use a specific inventory item now.

New emulated/redone versions of the hardcoded extrafloors. Also, putting a new sprite called INITIALIZER [#17] into a map will automatically replace the hardcoded damage floors with the remade ones[which support some new features, best listed on the site's documentation].

Many of Duke's one-liners through the classic levels now only play when he is the selected character.

All living though inactive characters receive EXP from kills, but they only receive a portion of it, while you receive extra. Additionally, EXP is now divided among the number of living characters in your team. You'll see how much EXP other characters get in a bracketed number below the normal exp amount on the reward display[if you have more than one character in your team or more than one character alive].

Radar mode that I mentioned above, however the arrows are now color coded by the monster's level in an identical way to their rank-stars. NPCs will appear as brown arrows. Remember, you must pick up a MERCURYCOMPUTER actor for this to work, or turn Debug Displays on in the system menu.

Also, a special version of eduke32.exe is enclosed in the direct download, which is necessary for this version[for support of showing the right keys for each action, via the "getkeyname" command]
