Can't even start - please help!

Ok, I installed Max Payne on my Computer alright but when I go play it it says

"max payne requiest direct x compatible display adapter". So i thought it might be that I need to patch it. So i download the patch and clicked on it. Now before the patch being installed it gives me the message "Setup could not update the file max payne.exe. Make sure the file isn't in use. please close all program and try running setup again. setup will now exit."

Now I have no idea what to do. so please help me. THX

Triple post, actually. You posted this in the Max Payne General forum where it doesn't belong. Anyway, I'll just copy and paste what I said there:
"You can first tell us what your system specs are.
Also, it probably has nothing to do with the patch. Your 3D accelerator drivers are probably just out of date or are incompatible with DirectX 8"

oops sorry, still trying to get used to this forum. I got...

P3 450mhz
128mb ram
voodoo banshee(really old im getting geforce 2 soon hopefully)

anyways it works with other games just not this one. Its really pissing me off. But just gonna try to do what I can.

It has to have something to do with that Banshee. Install the latest drivers for it. That might help.

I have installed the latest driver for it. But its not new enough. That driver was released in like febuary of 2000
