of all the days, i certainly thought there would have been some kind of action goin on here.
i'm kinda sad that there are no leaks, even fake release dates, or even some crazy story that makes the gaming industries elite seem like the mafia.

but it's expected from the longest running April fools day prank.

I just downloaded it, and there is SOMETHING in it. It's not a playable demo, but it seems to be sounds for DNF. I'm not lying. It's not a virus or anything bad. It's a bunch of Duke Nukem sounds. (Some of the sounds are from DN3D. Others i can't really tell if I've heard duke say before.)

It's true I downloaded them too. It's a bunch of John St. John voice stuff for duke. Some sound old but some I hadn't heard before. Only wish we could have heard the new ones while playing DNF. Maybe???? Someday???

This would be a post by former 3DR programmer Dave Ratti..

From a post one of the devs brother made when the news broke about the team being let got:

They had a hard cut-off date for development (11/2009) and a ship date (4/2010). They were stupid close to actually finishing this thing.

From 3DR's statement on the lawsuit:

Late last year, 3DR began negotiations with Take-Two to provide funding to complete the DNF game. In the meantime, 3DR was hitting mutually-agreed milestones, despite not having a new agreement finalized.

I was looking at the date of the sounds, and all of them were last modified during late may 2005.

So these sounds aren't recent or anything.

But the folders to sort each category were made January 7th 2008

All the download mirrors are backed up with at least 50 people. Rather remarkable if you think about it. By tonight, thousands of people will be hammering the servers at the same time just to get a file called "April Fools"

That's the problem, in today's world of gamers who care more about graphics than anything else (I'm not saying it's right, I'm just telling you how it is), Duke Nukem doesn't have a chance in the water.

Nobody will touch the game because of the effort (and thus financial risk) of getting it up to speed with today's technology, if they did we might be here for ANOTHER 13 years.

I would love to see Duke make a comeback, but that is not going to happen.

But if they wait much longer, technology will have surpassed enough to put DNF in the bargain bin within a few weeks of release.

With the current gen cycle, they have a while to get it out. Just a few months of sheen over the top and it can look just as good as any game out there. Also I'm not so sure we have to worry about it being kept up to date, as I'm sure it has been by a talented group of people ..............

I think the news that April 1st would have been the date is good news for everyone here. It means that if the project was picked up a short while after development stopped then there is a good chance that DNF is less than six months away from gold status. I would say look for a gold copy to hit T2's doorstep soon. It would be an easy way for 3DR to end T2's case.
