Shacknews sees Duke Nukem Forever
A few weeks ago, Steve Gibson and Maarten from Shacknews were in town doing Shacknews work. George Broussard invited them over to see Duke Nukem Forever. They checked it out for about half an hour, and today they posted a few comments about what they saw.
Something you'll definitely want to read. It's available at Shacknews here.

Re: Shacknews sees Duke Nukem Forever
Did 3DR instruct the guys from the shack to be very secretive and careful about what they post about the game? I assume there was some kind of NDA involved. I wonder if the NDA also instructed them to only be marginally impressed/excited about the game. I get a wierd feeling from reading the article.
The game exists though, so, yay! |

As a person who's at work behind a firewall, I can't visit Shacknews to read what it says.
Would it please be possible for someone to copy/paste it here on the forum? Pretty please? |

Meaning, haphazardly placed barrels and crates are also in.

The part about a forklift that works is pretty cool. I found it interesting that they talked about the interactivity to such a degree. No screens or much specific, but it sounds very much like the game is as interactive as George had claimed before.

Re: Shacknews sees Duke Nukem Forever
By the looks of it, very little. . .
I think we have all gone crazy, a forklift is exciting, but not so exciting that you shit your pants over it. That is unless the forklift can be used to kill and dismember. . .

Re: Shacknews sees Duke Nukem Forever
I think in the light of recent events we must create a thread dedicated solely to the forklifts in DNF. We could discuss shape, color, speed, weaponry and turn radius as well as additional functionality like impaling enemies on the fork. Who's with me?!

Didn't we already get confirmation that we could impale enemies with forklifts in a recent interview?
Also thanks for posting the Shacknews article! |

Forklift=the new crates.
Anyone else remember that "spy" report a few months back that talked about forklifts and smashing cue sticks over pig cop heads? Looks like that report may have been legit. Oh and George can come out of hiding to say hi.

Awesome. \o/ Truly awesome.
This is great news to come home from work and find. It's great that 3DR are feeling confident enough to show off the game... and show off a lot. Thirty minutes is a lot of game time. I can't wait for more media to be made public, and for more of these little "teaser previews" of such.

Re: Shacknews sees Duke Nukem Forever
Now this is the kinda thing I like to see on the front page. I know it's not a lot, but at least it gives us something better to talk about than "what if aliens changed Duke's gender." When THAT kinda topic comes up, you know we've run out of things to talk about. xD

What a lame post on Shacknews, it's more like: I can't talk about what I saw because we are under a NDA, but I want to brag about it anyway because we have seen it, nah nah nah

I can summarize the entire article with one work. Forklift. ok it's good to hear that things are moving along, but PLEASE, this is NOT significant information. I need in-game screenshots, and a playable demo! right now!

Well I can't speak for everyone, but I wasn't going to buy the game unless I could drive a forklift.

Re: Shacknews sees Duke Nukem Forever
This really is pathetic. At first I thought, well its better than nothing. But is it? It basically IS nothing. It feels like they are still trying to convince us that the game exists. Well this may come as a shock, but, we believe you 3DR! So now what? How about a real story? They should have told the shack guys WID just like everyone else because this is just stupid.
I mean I love you 3DR but seriously WTF is this supposed to be?

Re: Shacknews sees Duke Nukem Forever
This talk of forklifts has me thinking. I wonder how many drivable vehicles there are in DNF. I mean, with the super interactive environment they're aiming for, we'd be likely to run into a wide array of Human and alien vehicles throughout the game. I wonder if we can operate all of them or not.
Heh, I don't suppose 3DR can confirm if the number of drivable vehicles is in the double digits or not My guess would be that it's very likely, given what we've seen them aim for in the past, but who knows. It might be interesting if we have scenes like in the 2001 video where Duke is on a busy Las Vegas street with cars whizzing by if you could hijack vehicles GTA style and drive 'em around. |

Gabestaplerfahrer Klaus! A true classic!
And I kid you not, this is actually used as instructional video for future forklift drivers. A friend of mine has a license.
