Looks like I'm a couple minutes to late.

Damn you to hell, megarust!

The game doesn't look bad though. Polygon models over 2d isometric backdrops, I guess that's about the best they're going to get on the GBA.

It looks awesome for a gameboy game. The graphic novels look pretty good too.

If you sold your Game Boy Advance don't worry. Buy the new Game Boy SP. The backlight on it makes it sooo much easier to see! I bought it and I like it better then the Advance.

Holy crap, that looks pretty damn cool. I was kinda wondering how Max Payne would work on a GBA, but I'm pretty impressed. I wonder how it handles voice-overs in graphic novels, and how accurate to the PC/console version storyline it is...

Wonder if it contains bullettime

I have a GBA collecting dust at the bottom of my drawer. It would be nice to be able to use it again.

I'm going to play it safe and not rush out to buy it.I'll give it a test run first and then judge.

It says that the game will contain over 30 minutes of compressed audio, so I'd imagine that quite a bit of the graphic novels voice overs will remain intact.

Can't say I'm a big fan of GB ports, and I have my doubts about the effectiveness of aiming in an isometric view (gba still uses a d-pad right?).

Having said that, it looks like they're being very faithful to the orginal level design and style of the game, so provided that the bullet-time gameplay is on par, it should be a winner.

Any word on a bonus kung fu mode?

We've been playing this at the office, and we we're all really impressed. Rockstar and Moebius made a great job translating the content of the first game into a portable version. I still can't believe they managed to squeeze the graphic novels (with voice-overs) into the cartridge in addition to all of the gameplay.

More like from 1991. In 1986 the so-called IBM compatibles had a CGA video card as a standard and the graphics of the Amiga wasn't on par with that either.

wow - thats... um... weird!

It would be interesting to actually play it, but I don't have a gba

I wonder - how much of the original game can be ported? is it a case of just 'translating' it somehow, or does the game have to be recreated especially for the gba?

My guess, by the way it looks, it had to be recreated.

Since it's a "port" of MP1 it's not really a new game.

Very impressive. Just a normal wave file of one single voice over would be bigger than the entire GBA game.

It's not a port per se, it's a new game. If you port you move or recode the content for another system, but here you basically recreate everything, perhaps using the other game as a guideline, but I wouldn't call it a port.

I think that's why he put port in quotation marks.

Doesn't matter what he put port in, it's still a new game, and he said it wasn't

It's quite clear you both meant the same thing.

Alright first off, let's try to keep this friendly (at least as friendly as a semantic argument can be).

It is a port in a sense because a new story was not written. This is what I think Yenz was saying, and it's what I think too. There's no deliberate misunderstanding going on here. The subject line "Sam Lake stars in new max payne game" gives the false impression that a new max payne game, with presumably a new story, new weapons, new levels, was created. This is not the case. Would you argue that Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 for Gameboy Advance is a new game or a port of a game that already existed?

I don't mean to bust your chops or anything man. I'm trying to show you that Yenz (presumably) and me (definitely) agreed with you in the first place, and there was no need to "correct" anyone's statement.

this game as well as the sims and medal of honor may force me to buy a gba sp if i hear good enough reviews of these 3 games.

EDIT: and i forgot simcity 2000 is also coming to the gba. then i will prob get a gba sp now!

EDIT2: Oh god i forgot that also theeres an X-Tra Fun Bluetooth Module coming too for the SP only. God I hate how Nintendo is making me buy an SP...

EDIT3: And I forgot about the early GBA release of the new James Bond game and I forgot about the need for speed game... i am now, because of all these games-especially max payne and the 2 sim games- almost certainly going to buy one. thank you for showing me the gba version of max payne!
