I think we can. But I haven't got any coder's opinion about my code.

About longtime development.
I know it has been taking too much time to get it done(not just get it working). Perhaps this isn't that easy as it was appeared.

@ coders(mostly)
I don't like the fact that my OpenAL snapshot works other way comparing to the original sound engine. It is very difficult to add support for high-quality sound without replacing the original sound engine. I have to found way to minimize changes in the sound engine. Because replacing the sound engine is a radical thing and I think the coders won't like this too.

I wouldn't care one way or the other, but I guess it's somewhat more complicated for newbies who don't know which port to use and how to achieve maximum effects.
I think we should apply the fixes&palmaps and 64-bit patches.
After that I will come back to the OpenAL to make it done.

EDIT
About my OpenAL snapshots.
Never mind for now(I'm speaking about this post of mine). I'll explain that later.

Re: Remade music to be included?
Hello,

Duke HRP is amazing, and with better music it's even more amazing. Thanks to everybody who contributed to it - it is remarkable job. Duke Nukem with 3d models, better textures, etc is simply incredible.

However I have a problem with Eduke32 music pack

I can either have new music and lose all my saves, or keep saves but do not have the music - the Eduke32.exe which is included in the pack (and wchich supports ogg playback) does not see my previous saves. Is there any remedy to this?

Regards,
Simplex

Well it might be necessary to start a new game with no saves from previous builds.
Also note that the exe included in current mod is outdated. Latest version can be downloaded from here: http://www.mediafire.com/?enrse39bvjj

Nothing has been changed in OpenAL snapshotd related to savegames.

I think you are using an old version of official EDuke32(what's the first line in the EDUKE32.LOG file?).
The savegame format had been changed in August in the official EDuke32 and there wasn't a OpenAL snapshot at that time.

I more than half way through third episode, so if that is the case I will just finish it with old sounds and run new eduke32 on 4th episode

In my search for a version that would see my saves I also found that one, but thanks anyway

This must be it:
EDuke32 1.4.0 svn (Apr 21 2007 16:56:55)

I hope I'm not missing out much by using the old version.

EDIT: Is the newest version of Eduke32 here: http://eduke32.com/downloads or somewhere else? (may sound as a stupid question, but sometimes the original author stops woriking on a project and others continue it somewhere else - or official page contains old stable versions, and newest builds are somewhere else).
If savegames were changed in august, then where is the newest version of Eduke32 if it is not on sourceforge?
http://sourceforge.net/project/showf...roup_id=126745
Here, the newest version is from 2006, this is the one I have been using.

Re: Remade music to be included?
You have to either continue with the old snapshot or start a new game with a newer snapshot.
The format had been changed several times and the last one was in August.

The official EDuke is alive and kicking.
TerminX will release a new official snapshot soon.

The OpenAL snapshots is a separate development branch and isn't based on the latest official EDuke32. It was supposed to be merged with official EDuke32 but hadn't for some reasons yet.

Re: Remade music to be included?
Thanks for clearing that up. So where can I get the latest snapshot? I tried the link this thread: http://forums.3drealms.com/vb/showthread.php?t=25577 but it is dead.

Just a thought - would the music from music pack work on official snapshot if it was converted to mp3 (or wav)?

Official is here: http://eduke32.com/downloads(Development snapshots)

Official EDuke32 would reduce sample rate for sounds(to 11000Hz by default) and it supports:
Sound - VOC, WAV.
Music - MID.

EDIT
More direct link.

Thanks for the updated link - I did not the seee the link "Development snapshot' and I only redownloaded a version from July 18, 2006, which is even older then the one I have now, which was included in HRP pack (april 2007).
Perhaps there is a converter of old saves for the new snapshot?

EDuke32 Music Pack v1.03 has been released. Latest EDuke32 mod build (9c) has been included, filesize reduced by 25% and several tracks edited for better loopback.

Define "corrupted". Are they incomplete or don't they play at all? I am having no problems on my side.

I just unpacked the archive without any problems. I suggest redownloading the zip file (perhaps from a different mirror just in case).

I wonder if JFAud will ever be released...

At this point i'd be willing to pay him to finish it.

I wonder whether it's a legend. Well we have a good substitute for it, at least. Even if there are still some issues, especially what I call the "low pitch echo" effect where you would hear some sounds (monster death screams and the like) repeated after they are actually played, very slowly and low pitch. If that's fixed, Hunter_rus's mod is very usable for the time being.

Re: Remade music to be included?
Hi everyone

First of all a BIG thanks to all of those guys who's spending a lot of their time making Duke3D even better, i really enjoy playing Duke everytime!
Keep up the good work!

Im new here at the forum, so i apologize if my question is a bit stupid.

Hunter_rus: is it possible you can post the eduke source with your OpenAL patch? the reason i ask is because i want to compile it for linux (as its what i use as everyday operating system) and so others here at the forum who are using linux also can enjoy a good music pack

kind regards
Funtex

It isn't customized for Linux yet. I need to make some changes to reduce problems which can take place during compiling in Linux. I was going to prepare the source code. I'm still going to release it as soon as I can but it will take some time.

Just getting this topic back on top with the request that latest EDuke32 snapshot (2008-01-26) should be modified to deliver OpenAL as the previous mod build. And it would be great if the "low pitch echo" effect could be eliminated.

Well, actually, a couple day ago i was playing E1L3 to E1L5 and i never heard the "low pitch echo" once. Maybe to resolve the problem, you just need to play the game a couple of times?

This seems not to be a really realistic approach to solve the problem. *LOL* I think there's still some glitch in the code. Still better than having to rely on plain MIDI music, though. And Vista users need OpenAL, anyway.

Answer to first question: Download the Music Pack off of NighFright's site and the .def files in it might help you.

Answer to second question: No, not yet.

Answer to fifth question: Openal.org . Download the latest version and SDK.

Hunter could you please upload with a cache of all your custom EDuke32 build with music from BEFORE they incorporated it in the official ones? Those builds always worked fine for me without any crashing.

Also note the latest official EDuke32 builds seem to correct the texture misalignment issues on some maps (most famous example being the E1L5 "San Andreas Vault" sign). You cannot miss those!

1. The SAF was never misaligned for me.
2. I understand that your builds are newest and contain performance and bugfixes aswell as compatibility updates for the current HRP maphacks and SD_Duke. However, these builds CRASH OFTEN on my machine! I have already uploaded a memory dump as advised, and got no feedback as to what was discovered as of yet. Until a build that will address these issues will be out I JUST WANNA PLAY MY DUKE! I don't care how old the builds are.

Well, my EDuke NEVER crashes. I guess that compensates for your never-misaligned SAF. It depends on your system. What machine and which OS do you use?
