Anyone dare to try this?!

Anybody bold enough to try completing the full version of Wolfenstein 3D using only the knife? I dare someone to try to beat all levels, on the hardest mode! You can pick up guns, etc, but you cannot use them! The only weapon you can attack with is the knife!

I don't think it's possible. Getting rid of the bosses would take forever, and I don't think there's enough health in the game to sustain you for that long.

Not without cheating, anyway.

Not to mention that when you're standing point blank from an enemy, they do crazy damage.

As far as Classic DOOM goes, "UV Tyson" runs are pretty hardcore; pistol, chainsaw, and fist/berserker only.
Watching a guy fisting a Cyberdemon to death is almost as fascinating as it is long.

Wolfenstein, however, doesn't benefit the player with monster in-fighting if I remember correctly. Besides, the hail of fire from a chaingun-toting boss would make it impossible to get that close for more than a few seconds. Impossible feat, I say.
A more plausible pistol-only run on the hardest setting, however, would be fairly impressive.

Its really impossible because none of the bosses give a damn if you attack them. (IE; you cant get them in a flinch lock by attacking them.) meaning its "possible" you could get through all the maps of a given episode... but goodluck killing the bosses.

I played the E2M8 demo; just twenty minutes of dodge-dodge-dodge-PUNCH. Guy managed to finish with 7% health.

I did and died... but interestingly, I've managed to survive till E1M6... I died to SS guards... they were blocking my way damn.

The only way I can see this being done AT ALL, is with hit and run attacks. Run up, stab, retreat, come back, stab, rereat... and I mean using a mouse so you can get that super glide around corners.

I just don't think this is a challenge that can be done however.

Well, I wish somebody could have taken himself/herself to video that could show himself/herself getting pawned by Grosse

(Also come to think of it, run back and stab would never work, Grosse hits you for like 20 Health per second if you are close... Even though you run back, you still get hit by that big man!)

Don't go straight back, strafe sideways behind cover? I agree, though, it would be impossible for a human to pull this off because you would get mowed down in seconds once you got close enough to use the knife.

If someone is planning to record the attempt, use DOSBox so that you can record in ZMBV format. It's lossless but is so compact it creates smaller videos than H.264.

I died an ass load of times and I did what Commando Nukem said.
On all the levels when I'd run into enemies I'd stab, run away, get shot, nearly die, find health I didnt pick up, and and go back and stab more

haha.. So this style of gameplay is stabber? Actually, if you can stab your way to the bosses, then it's ok I guess... Well at boss levels, the chaingun is always given to player for some reason

I reccon it's doable just bloody hard. If you were lucky enough and skillfull enough I bet you could do it, maybe once. But the effort would not be worth it.

This sounds impossible to me. Maybe with a pistol run it could be done. . .but unlike a lot of newer games, I think in Wolfenstien you don't get many shot of the bosses back.

I can easily beat the bosses with pistol... It's easy but takes too much time... And also, only some levels have enough ammo for bosses (Hans Grosse is not one of them on the hardest and the skill above it )

What are you talking about? The huge secret room with ammo is plenty to kill Grosse on ANY skill level.

I got a link I could find of a guy fighting the Tyrant from Resident Evil 1 with only a knife. but what's this got to do with Wolfenstein 3D nothing but it is hard to do.

Once recorded, ZMBV videos can't be edited, recut or resized. Sadly, there are no ZMBV encoders, only decoders. You could doctor a video recorded with DOSBox if you transcoded it to another codec, but that would be a giveaway because there's really no reason to transcode a DOSBox recording since no other codec would come out as small as ZMBV anyway. If someone uploads a ZMBV, it pretty much has to be real.

Yep, pretty much.

The difference is, the Tyrant has delays in his attacks. You can stab and rum, stab and run. There is NO WAY to do this against a wolf3D boss, they will always slaughter you before you can even get them down 25%.

Yeah, but you still have the RE Controls to contend with. As much as I love RE sometimes I get flippity with the controls.

Its possible, i've done it with my friends only once during the summer of 99 (mount carlmore?). Though its a hell of lot easier than trying to punch a cyberdemon to death . Just prepare to spend hours playing.
