Was Hovertank and Catacomb (1989) on floppy?
There must be a an old post regarding this but I'm just curious how were the majority of Apogee/ID games distributed prior to commander keen (II?), duke 1 and Catacombs 3d (1991)
Before late 1991/early 1992. Were they all generic mail order disks or were they put on shareware bundles or considered BBS games for download? I'm curious to know if Hoovertank and Catacomb is findable on floppy disk format or was even distributed in this format by mail order. This goes for any other game from this very early era. |

Re: Was Hovertank and Catacomb (1989) on floppy?
Catacomb very certainly was distributed on a floppy that was bundled with some gaming/gamedev mag of that time (forgot its name though*). The image of the disk that contains Catacomb, the original Dangerous Dave and some other game was released with official permission and can be found at RGB Classic Games.
* RGB Classic Games kindly reminds that the magazine is called Gamer's Edge - it was published by Softdisk IIRC.

I imagine all of the Gamer's Edge games were distributed on individual floppy disks. To be honest I've never seen any of them before on eBay or elsewhere so I don't think very many copies were sold.
