No go, new steam install, XP x64
I took advantage of that wonderful deal on Steam to buy and download Prey.

Sadly, on my home system, it doesn't run... it sits there using about 18MB of RAM and 25% of my (quad core) system CPU. It was pretty frustrating, so I even deleted local content and downloaded again.

I do get the little "preparing to launch Prey" box, that goes away in a few seconds, and then the only thing that I know about Prey is when I see it in Task Manager.

Any ideas?

My system:
Q6600 CPU
8800GT graphics
2GB RAM
WinXP Pro x64 edition

I've got no problem playing newer games like HL2... anybody know what's up with Prey?

Thanks!

sadly, I have the exact same issue, but in Vista 32 bit and it sits at a black screen. I still haven't figured out a way to get it to run.

To compare hardware, I'm using

Intel Q6600 @2.4 ghz
Asus P5E mobo
Nvidia 8800GT
2 gigs of RAM
Vista (32)

So it's clearly a problem with the way the game handles quad-core 8800GT systems with 2GB of RAM.

I'm really surprised not to see more help (or even ideas!) here. Sigh.

The good news is, it plays well on my laptop, but that's not nearly as nice as playing it on my desktop. I think I'm near the end, can't figure out how to knock out the sphere (but it was late when I last played, so maybe I was just tired).

I have that same Intel chip but mine runs. Granted I don't have a 8800GT card so it might be that...or drivers.
