oh i get it... In this pic it depicts an EDF trooper shooting at the Cycloid Emperor and someone else helping him (presumably Duke although not shown), so it could be a metaphor - the EDF trooper is gearbox, Duke is 3DR and the cycloid Emperor is DNF, both fighting to take down the monster which is DNF.

Now thats putting to much thought into it.

2. Gearbox was already working with Duke Nukem Begins. Chances are they were working with the same engine and development IDE that DNF uses, and if that is the case, even though DNB was paused, on account of them being already familiar with the same engine and development IDE, they will not loose that extra 6 or more months that another developer would loose trying to familiarize with the development IDE when given the DNF contract.

So with 11 months working left when DNF team was left off ( team layed off in May 2009 vs supposed to go gold on April 1st 2010) , and then worked resumed on Nov by Gearbox who were already familiar with the Duke Engine and development IDE, I would say this christmas to coming year first quarter, there is a bright chance of the full retail version DNF getting released.

In other words your making a random guess that the game will be released this winter. Not impossible as your assumptions is one out of several millions possible scenarios.

I think the chance for a DNF release at the end of this year is very, very slim. I do believe in Scott though, so there may be something interesting going on which could be revealed at the end of this year. It may just be a wonderfull winter for Duke fans after all!

Usually how far off a retail release becomes once a game demo is released ? If a demo does get released this year end, which I highly doubt cause the production team should be more concerned with finishing the full version first then releasing a demo, I would say the full retail version should be gold ready by 1st of April 2011.

You can't go by when a demo is released... you could once upon a time but not anymore. Now Demo's are sometimes released way after the full game has been released, sometimes a month or two before, while others its released when the game is.

I seriously don't think they meant a public demo on PC or Xbox LIVE, I think they meant some sort stage demo only to be displayed at PAX.

Look at e3. There were tons of demos for games that won't be released until next year

Well, Lost Planet 2 got some sweet time to launch after its demo appeared on PSN.

If this is all true and the game can be released next year, I would like to see Duke Nukem Forever be released on July 1st, 2011. The 20th anniversary of Duke Nukem. I think it would be totally epic!

If the playable demo data is true, I don't think that was there before 3DRealms bankrupcy. It's probably new stuff Gearbox came up with :P 3Drealms stuff must have been just busy trying to finish the complete game for good, before they ran out of money.

Today i was reading through Wikipedia and got to Randy Pitchford where i learned that he was working with 3DR in early days and actually worked on duke atomic, duke64 and Shadow Warrior.
Now Im really glad that if the rumors are true then Duke will be in good hands.

This is my first post, but I have been following Duke for a looooong time now. I seriously think this is the last bit of hope that we have. If this turns out to be a false rumor, I think a part of my soul will die and I'll just have to move forward leaving Duke in the past

. I do, however, think that this is a really good possibility considering what we've all seen and heard this year.

Think about it, why would Take2 and 3DR just suddenly come to terms? I don't think the lawsuit was dropped (without the possibility of EVER suing each other over the same thing again) because Take2 decided to be nice and give 3DR a warning. It wouldn't make sense, otherwise the lawsuit would have never been filed in the first place. Not to mention the fact that we've already seen the "Good news this year" twitter post a while back.

I'm not making any assumptions on whether or not it will be at PAX or saying we'll see a demo and a release this year. I'm thinking there's a good chance that DNF will see the light of day, though.

Just remember, though, even IF GB has taken over the role of finishing DNF, we've all been let down in the past. I won't hold my breath even if this rumor is true.

That is quoting a Randy Pitchford post from February 2008. For reference the 3DR team was laid off in May 2009 and the agreement between 3DR and Take Two that got Duke Begins the go ahead was entered into in October, 2007. So yeah, that is not in reference to DNF, but may well be a reference to Duke Begins.

they should resurrect the name of apogee in a new internal studio, clean slate with an awesome reputation, I know they hate the internal studio idea, but with the DNF experience you should think they are now able to organise a development cycle

As it was confirmed that Gearbox was the developer of Duke Begins, one can assume that that quote is about that game, why not? I'm certain it is, but they never officially stated that that quote was about Duke Begins, or did they?... and of course it can't be DNF, I'm not defending that position at all. There are three unannounced projects, any of them can be Duke Begins. That quote might or might not have a relation to Duke at all.

Anyway, I'm more than happy to know that there's a possibility that Gearbox, the developer behind Duke Begins, could be finishing Duke Forever.
