I dunno, maybe it sucks hearing the opinions of the same 5-10 people over and over. It's good to get some fresh air and to see what some of the people who don't know anything about the thing think.

Well, I may be an AMCer lately, but I still don't know anything.

One thing I don't know is this: What will Survival have to offer in terms of gameplay that Turok on N64 did not?

And yeah, James is the main character, although we haven't got a decent player model yet (imo) - I suppose that'll come later. Or view mode will be disabled or something

Nah not really, as long as it's more than "OMG WANT THIS NOW" posts which we seem to be getting here as well :/ I guess it's just to gather some more popularity for the project Not like it's a bad thing - who doesn't want to make his project FAMOUS

Why am I not surprised to see an anti-amc reply by you, fair danzel?

It's kinda obvious that anyone from the survival team wants to get his stuff commented by as much people as possible. Even if we all just signed up here for this thread then there still wouldn't be a problem, as we're working our butts off on this and a certain amount of "a-whoo-oo" should be allowed. I personally have been a member here for years (wearing out usernames where I've forgotten the passwords of as I go) so zip it, it's just no true.

Now I'm sick of this whole fictional amc/3dr thing. The only people that go along with this are the ones that have either been banned from one of the two or have had some bad experiences. That's personal, don't spread that as if you're delivering cold hard facts. This is all one big community, just because some people like one forum better than the other doesn't mean a darn thing.

All that matters is that there are some pretty awesome projects coming from both sides.

What the christ To be honest I've never played Turok on the N64 so I can't really answer that; all I can say is that the mappers all have their own ideas about what they're making, and that alot of gameplay elements and weapons are based on those specific ideas. There ís an overall theme present, but since the game is based on exploring and finding new places (the lead character gets tossed in an unknown place and from that point on it's basicly one big adventure, kindof winking at unreal1) us mappers have a nice amount of freedom which leads to many different gametypes and ideas.

Survival continues the story of James' Imagination World tc (which is already released) so as Sang said, James (proud member of the EDF) is still playing the lead role.

Maybe but you missed my point. Im even waiting for the project myself. Thats not the point. All of you know the AMC'ers opinion, and theyre not bringing anything new to the table. Just some more "woo hoos" and "cant wait". Wast of bandwith really. I dont want this project to fail any more than the rest of you, it has potential, whether or not what I think of James. I agree Geoff, its just I havent ever seen the most of the AMC'ers here until this thread was created. I see you around pretty often, but other than that.

Speaking of points being missed:
You asked why the "AMCers" would come here to "whore" the Survival project. Then TX gave you a perfectly good answer, which you seem to have ignored.

If you think you have something to bring to the table, then why don't you bring it?

Yeah, I really don't see the problem BlitZ. So far all the people who replied to the video are people who don't post at AMC. As Geoffrey already said, it's nice to receive a bit more feedback as well. I can't help but think this IS partially related to the difficulties you've had with myself and some other AMC/Survival members. In any case, I don't think a negative response like yours was warrented at all. A single topic made by somebody else to talk about Survival seems like a good place to discuss it, and as far as I know we haven't been whoring it in any other topics at all.

Being able to see an enemy more than 5 feet in front of you? Seriously though, I'd be lying through my ass if I said Survival's gameplay will be revolutionary. So far, it's fun and feels solid enough. There's a large selection of weapons that are based on real-world ones - you can pick up and use different types of pistols and shotguns, as shown in the videos. Is there much of a difference? With some guns like the Shotgun, not really. It's more up to the player to decide if he likes the short, compact Mossberg or the wooden Remington 870 more. If the player doesn't care, they can just ignore the different types of guns and just play through it once. If they DO care, they can play through the game again starting with the weapons they collected on the previous run.

When you complete an episode of Survival, any weapons you have will be added to an armoury room in the starting level of the episode. You can play the game again using the weapons you collected last time. It's not much, but Resident Evil 4's ability to play through again using the weapons you had last time inspired me greatly (I'd say RE4 inspired me alot in some cases, as well as Unreal)

Also to eloborate; Highwire plays an EDF commander in IW and will return in Survival as well. Although there's still a humerous touch in the story (IW contains a brief nod to Mikko Sandt's cult in his mod 'Brave new world') Survival is pretty serious - but there's no angst in the story, and I'm doing my best to steer clear of all the crappy cliches that seem to litter the genre as a whole. Obviously some are unavoidable in order to actually progress the story of course

I don't see anything wrong with people trying to promote their work. You would really have to do that a lot, in a repititious way, in order for it to cross the line into spamming. I see no danger of that happening.

That sounds very good. You must be taking advantage of EDuke's read/write gamevar features. If it were my project, I would consider making it more than just weapons (inventory options perhaps?), or at least make some radically different weapons that would really change the gameplay experience when the player goes through it again.

I read what TX said. Its completely irrelevant since they all have the same opinion. and James, It doesnt have anything to do with some kind of vendetta as I have already disregaurded them as me being an A+ *******.

We're contemplating the idea of skills, but more stuff like being able to reload 2 shells at a time or fanning a revolver so you can fire really fast than the system you have in DN:WoMD or like Deus Ex where you can improve your running and shooting abilities. I'd say it's slightly more similar to System Shock 2 than anything else, but we might not even add it in I did have this idea a while ago, but I must admit seeing it in action in your mod filled me with some confidence that it works quite well in Duke.

However, it's just occured to me making this post that a system like Fallouts and Vampire: The Masquerade where reading certain books can give you skills would make a much better system than skill points would for Survival. None are final though - it might not even make it in, but I do personally like skill-based systems since they reward some commitment and give the game even more replayability.
