That kind of explains why you guys are still using CD's over there considering your avarage Joe would never bother to ready anything thats written in a smaller font then the title. Heck I would be annoyed to if I had to study the whole box just to see if I am getting the CD or DVD version.

For the Quake 4 DVD edition they did put a few warnings on the package "THIS IS A DVD-ROM PRODUCT!" I had no problem with that.

Yeah, the FEAR director's edition made it very clear that it was on a DVD.

Don't know about the rest of you but I prefer to get the DVD version of Prey. This way I won't have to deal with those annoying CD swaps.

I'll prefer a DVD version too. I'm just saying it makes sense to keep making CD versions. (Plus, I like to watch movies while games install.)

Not really. I don't mind swapping CDs when I install games. I own CoD2,Far Cry, UT2K4, Quake 4 and many more on CD and the installations don't bug me a bit.
It takes a few seconds to open the drive, take the disc out and put the other in. I'm getting the DVD edition of PREY for the same reason I got the DVD edition of FEAR.
Bonus features.

I want the collector's edition for any cool shit 3DRealms or Humna Head throws in.

But it's annoying to seat through whole installation because of that. For example, once I click install in dvd version I can go drink a cup of tea.

I can honestly say 90% of the time when I install a game... I don't want to leave the room until it's installed and I've played it.

Re: CD or DVD
For me, there's no problem between CD / DVD, I honestly don't care if I need to swap CDs for install...

BUT the only complain I have with current games (not always the case, it depends...) is those damn CD / DVD boxes where you need to press the center plastic bits real hard & makes you break the media one day or another (excuse for that bad description, I don't find proper english words to express that )

An example (for those that bought it): the "Dredd vs Death" title from Rebellion on PC (french version in my case)...

I know exactly what you mean, and i agre with you...
I have several game boxes like that, and my copy of Far Cry has already taken some damage of that... It still works, but i fear i need to burn a backup copy of it on a DVD-rom...

Yeah, those things suck yeah, that is why a lot of people want to use backups but thanks to copyright protection it is not possible. Although I think that in a lot of countries you can demand a replacement for things like this. Because you have the right to create a backup there and use that. But I am not a lawyer so I don't know.

Joe suggested - jokingly - that DNF could use its own USB flash drive. I think that's actually a great idea for game distribution if they can ever make them cheap enough to make it cost-effective. That way, no more stupid CD cases that you have to bend the CD in order to get it out. I share your frustration, Micki!.

There we discussed how it should look...
I remember one of them was Duke's mighty boot with a USB device in it...

Errr.....'forced respawn'?

Heh, sorry about the confusion. I still like to use this old Warner Brothers joke from time to time.

Anyways, I think that in time Game developers will, in the future, have no choice but to release their games in DVD format since games are getting larger and larger. I mean, you can't jam pack around 10 CDs in a box. And I shudder to think of going through all those install CDs.

Then you'll have to look back and say the same about the DVD once the Blu-Rays take off and into the market.
CD's wount be anymore differant then 8-Tracks and the DVD will be the one becoming the .
Sometimes technology plainly sucks =/ day one you buy the "latest" and when you give your credit card to pay and leave to your house and install it. You go back to the store the next day finding yourself with another brand new item finding the item you just bought yesterday is already "out of date".

10 Cd's? Good thing I never got UT2004, I didn't think it was worth it when I owner 2003. (Not that I play that atm. )

Eagerly awaiting 2007 though. I am definately getting the DVD version of that one. (after trying out a demo from it to see how it runs. )
