Lightbulb So how were you Introduced to DUKE NUKEM?
WELL I remember awhile back when the N64 was popular, I saw DUKE NUKEM 64 in Nintendo Power. Then I said cool, ignored it and forgot about it. Until one day my friend upstairs bought the game, came over and introduced it to me. We played cooperative together, I was blown away by how cool Duke Nukem really is. Killing aliens, babes, Duke Taunts, Duke Humor, etc.

That is how I loved all the DUKE games after that one, especially Duke Nukem Zero Hour and now waiting for Duke Nukem Forever.

Duke Nukem 64 was actually my first FPS (yeah, I'm pretty young). Me and my bro used to play for hours on coop and dukematch - was really fun. I thought that was the only Duke Nukem game (hey, I was young ) but I found DN3D at a garage sale and picked it up, as well as some others such as Zero Hour and Time To Kill.

I first played DN3D on a friend's computer MANY YEARS AGO, i was really really young at the time...I remember getting Shadow Warrior and started mapping for it. It was kinda difficult to make the efffects so i've given up on it...then started building on Blood and got pretty decent maps at it that unfortunately got lost over time. Then I tried DN3D for the shake of it and fell in love of the demolitions and explosions everywhere, which is what I love the most, So that's why DN3D was the main game I mapped for from then on.

I read a Duke3D preview in May 1995, where the game was described as "better than Doom". The article mentioned interactivity in Duke3D, explaining how you could break toilets, see water spring up and drink it, how the Build engine allowed sector-over-sector architectures, how you could kick your enemies, swim, and fly with a jetpack... at the end, I was convinced that I HAD to play Duke3D, so I bought it as soon as it came out.

When iwas about 8yrs old, my dad came home from work with a new computer(Windows 95) and i had NFS on there at the time. A few days later, dad rang us from work and said bring the computer into work, some guy there was going to install some game for us, so mum drove us down there. There were heaps of games, that night i was going through them all, and came across Duke3D, i lust loved it, and have done ever since, now i have every duke on every console.

A year or so after Duke3D came out ('97 I think...), our teacher at primary school put the demo on a spare computer in the corner of the classroom. Whoever was the first to finish their work got to play it.

Needless to say, that got removed pretty quick.

That was also where I played Jedi Knight: Darkforces II for the first time.

I can't remember the year but I was heavy into playing Doom and making maps for it when a friend of mine said I should get Duke3d. I'd never heard of the game but he gave me a shareware version to try. Needless to say I went to the store and got the full version shortly after that and enjoyed playing Duke matches on Kali and making maps for many years. Over the years I changed operating systems and computers several times and found that I could nolonger play Duke or any of the other build games. It wasn't till recently that I heard about the Eduke port and now I'm enjoying Duke all over again as well as the other addons and build games. I guess it's a good thing never to throw old stuff out.

About 9 years ago I was at a friend's house when he showed me the shareware of Duke. Needless to say it blew me out of the water I remember begging my Dad to try and copy the demo into a floppydisc (Of course not realising it wouldn't of fit without splitting it)

My first actual contact with the full version was with the Playstation version (which is why I like it) but eventually I found out one of my friends owned V1.3D, so he gave it to me. Eventually I managed to get my hands on the Atomic edition for Christmas, and the rest is history

After a while i noticed on the Internet that people could actually make maps for them.. that's when i really started to like DN3D, if it wasnt for mapping i would've left it ages ago.

Are we only talking about DN3d, or may I mention that my first contact with Duke was the release of Duke Nukem I.

Though I was just a little kid, I played that game more than everything other. My dad brought the shareware version of it home and gave it to me and my brother. We all loved that game ^^
By the release of Duke Nukem II, I bought the full version of both: Duke Nukem I+II. (Duke II rocked even more that the first one).

After several years a friend of me showed me DN 3d and I was amazed...
I was even more amazed, when I found out about those con-files *g*

One day he visited me and gave me Duke MP, I was so excited, i ran for my computer, talk to him while it was installing. But few years back, our Duke3d Disc suffered a MASSIVE scratch. not only never letting me Duke3d again, but forced to play shareware games. Well, i think thats my Story. I'll shut up now

Actually yeah my first exposure was DN1 and 2. But really, the big exposure was when I first downloaded the D3D demo back in early '96. Quickly took it around to a friend's place for him to try and he loved it to bits as well.

Bought the full version when it came out, quickly got the patch to release the parental control (yeah I'm in Australia) and played it to death. Even nabbed the Atomic edition very soon after release.

When I was a kid (8 years old, I think) some frinds come with Duke Nukem Total Meltdown. I buy (ok, I get a pirate copy) the same CD.
After that (some two or three years after it) I bought (now 100% legal) Duke Nukem 64.

At the end, while I have a computer I started playing The Birth episode and getting online extra stuff for the game...

My brother's friend showed us the shareware version (on a demo disc from a magazine) sometime during 1996, I remember being extremely frightened by it (hell, I was only 11 back then and it was the first time I've seen such a realistic looking game) and commenting on how violent it was as my brother died at the first troopers. A few days later we got the magazine which is when I finally myself got to try it out.

Sometime later (not sure how long) we bought the full version (not AE) and I had nightmares from playing it.

I used to go to one of my friends' house every day, one day, I was playing Megaman X on the super nintendo, then, his brother just got home with a new game, he went to his bedroom, turned on the Nintendo 64, then just said for me and my friend, 'check this out !'.

And then we were listening to the theme song, I was amazed just by the song, I love heavy metal...

Re: So how were you Introduced to DUKE NUKEM?
First contact with a Duke game for me was Duke Nukem 2 -- I had some shareware disc or something and Duke2 was among it. I thought it was fun, so I bought the CD (this was over 10 years ago) and upon completion it said something like "to be continued in Duke Nukem 3D" or something similar. So we (me and my brother) were like "mom dad buy that game" and in 1997-1998 that happened. The 1.3d version was in my possession on Christmas 'Eve and I played it that same evening. Holy crap.. The feeling I had when I played the first level was overwhelming. Everything looked so real! The liztroops were more scary than Doom's hellbarons and they were around every corner!

Even before the end of E1L1 my head was about to burst from all the awesomeness. I was 7 or 8 at that time so it was easy to be impressed back then. That's a feeling not any other game has ever given me.. HL2 came close I must say but the many loading times really detracted from that experience. Maybe BioShock will recreate that feeling?

Here is my story...

I was young at the time, and I saw my dad playing it. He let me play it and I had a blast! At some point my brother rented the n64 version and we played with dukebots. Then for some reason duke seemed to dissappear with the release of halo and how I got obsessed with it. I couldn't play duke on XP because we had no knowledge of jfduke and all that. Soon my brother found project64 (an emulator). I downloaded duke64 and got intrested in duke again. I played it until my dad found a way to get duke running under XP. I ditched the emulator and played the real thing. Soon I got bored and found some user maps stowed away in the disk. I played them till they got old. I searched the internet for more maps and found the repository. I downloaded like a hungry pig (cop). However, one day the repository did not respond. Devastated, I got bored and dug up build. I started out with a wierd room, but eventually worked my way up to making a messy, but accurate representation of moe's tavern. Soon I stumbled upon AMC, but soon it got closed too. After a while I registered to the AMC forums, following a registration to this very forum, and here I am now, typing this worthless information.

I didn't know that it was a shooter or anything, maybe I thought it had to do with Captain Planet, which I wasn't into. But then on a whim, after I got bored with the other demos, I decided to download this Duke Nukem 3D's shareware. I played it and it blew me away. The real world environments, the story-like level progression, the character, the weaponry, the humor - I'm still hooked.

I got given Duke Nukem 3D for the Playstation when i was about 8 or 10 for christmas (hard to remember) since my parents didnt mind i played mindlessly violent video games (doubt they did know it was that violent though ) it was my first ever Duke game, and like a few others said here, I thought it was the only Duke game and it got me hooked to it. Eventualy this led me into getting the N64 version, the Game Boy version Duke Nukem advance and the PC version of it. I have got time to kill, land of the babes ect, but I have an attachment with the old style 3D game. I think the sprites are just a classic reminder of the success it had
getting that game as kid sure did bring me into an obsessed world with 3D worlds, 2D sprites' games.
