TEXTURE CONTEST
OK
A new contest has started and im letting everyone know all all forums.

So what it is is....

I made a very basic map, and gave a texture pack with it.

People have to fill in the map given with anything they like using only the textures given in the pack.

The download and rulz are here.

If you want to join post here to say so.
We have about 5 people in the compitition at the moment.

Oh and when your map is finished send it to me dont upload it cause I will release all maps together in 1 zip.

Just finishing the second level.. It seems so small, but it uses almost the maximum sectors and stuff :S strange

It takes up about 1 / 20 of the grid! But it's still huge!

Starting with the fourth map today / tomorrow!
And yep, sorry for the time-taking, I will have sparetime soon so I'll be doing the maps faster!

Sounds kool! think i'll give it a shot.

BTW: On ur site it says: "You are alowed to change the hight of areas." What about changing slopes of ceilings/floors?

I would like to give this a try, but I have a few questions.

1 ] Can you divide up exisiting sectors to create fake shadows?

2 ] Can you divide up walls for the purpose of breaking them into smaller segments? For instance, if you wanted to put a light fixture in the middle of an existing wall, could you insert some extra vertecies to allow for the texture change?

3 ] Can I add extra sectors into existing sectors? Things like crates, pillars or walls and trenches.

4 ] How much can I reshape existing sectors and walls (if at all). Specifically, could I move walls and vertexes around to create more uniform angles. Can I insert\remove vertexes if needed?

Great idea for a contest BTW, and where did you get those improved Doom textures, they look pretty good.

Yes you can cut the sectors up as mutch as you like for whatever details you want.

Yes. Remember as mutch detail as you would like. This map was only the base change it as mutch as you like
Just dont make it bigger.

Yes.

Yes make all the changes you like as long as you dont make the map bigger than it is ATM. Your not alowed to make "New rooms" outside the area given.

Could you zip up the origional textures, for High-Res mode in D3D, and post the file?

I thought it might be hard to do a real single player map for that "layer" of the map that you've done (when you mentioned single player maps, I mostly thought on the ROCH maps, cause those are real SP maps, rock on)
Can you tell me some specific things I'm allowed to do when single player:ing?

You can change walls and there positioning. As long as you dont make the map bigger.

I have time. And Polls will be opend for people to vote what map they thought was the best. So I personaly dont decide alone.
But for me personaly i will vote on spritework design effects and gameplay.

Ok map will be short but its up to you to decide how to do it thats why its a contest

I noticed it might be hard to do submergible water effects if you're NOT using the allowed area.. Is it allowed to create my own submergible water areas?

just put it back to origional size.
But your alowed to do small things like tiny cubord for medkit things like that

you can only use what is given.

I already have enough Map projects in my hands, so I don't need one that requires extra speed. Hallabal, Gallian, Area 51 and the Wild West maps need to be finished. <('.'<)

I can work with the grid, however, I no longer have the time to continue working on my entry.

The texture limit is a MAJOR pain though, there isnt a big enough variety IMO.

Reworked about half the level to something I'm fairly happy with. But will later have to go back and fix up all the shading and add in ambient SFX etc. I'd post a screen shot, but I don't want to give anything away.

Another question.

On the East end of the level, you have a raised bit which sort of acts like a wall (So you can't get to the sector where the ceiling meets the floor I guess). anyway, I made it a wall, and built some structures outside of it. The main purpose of these structures is to make it look like there is something outside the level other than just empty sky. They don't actually serve any purpose other than looking good, and you can't get to them. But I had to expand the inacessable sector a little to get these scenery structures looking right.

I just wanted to know if this was a violation of the rules or not, since I had to slightly enlarge a sector or two (But to justify myself, the player can't get to those sectors anyway).
