Anyone else think we'll get a GOLD announcement at E3?

Yeah, we know the whole "when it's done" stuff.

This is a "GONE GOLD" discussion-a discussion on whether you think the game might be announced as "GOLD" at this year's E3 show in May.

I think there's a really good chance of it happening or that it may even be announced gold before the show and that it has started shipping during E3. I dig things like that.

I'm still a fan of the "secret" Sega Saturn launch where they announced it at E3 that Saturn had just went on sale that morning.

Almost all articles and interviews seem to suggest that PREY is due for a springtime release.

I don't think the gold announcement will be postponed untill E3. It will go gold when they're satisfied with it, when all the bugfixing and tweaking is done.

Well, perhaps all the bugfixing and tweaking is already done by thne, and therfor an announcement of Prey at E3 going gold wouldn't be bad at all... Especially if Prey is actually going to E3... (has that officially been stated btw)

It was 6 months - 1 year. And besides, that was for DNF. George has already explained that Prey is different.

Weekly update, people.

Speaking of GDC. Every year, when I realize that GDC is upon us, I always start thinking about E3, since it's a bit less than two months away. We've already started discussing what we'll be showing of Prey at E3.

No final plans as of yet, so I can't mention anything in this update -- but we will be showing off Prey in some form at E3.

Oh, right...I think I must have had the Tim Gerritsen interview open at the same time and got them confused when I tried recalling where I'd heard about Prey being at E3.

"Some polishing" won't change the game if someone don't like it. And they already heard what people saying about the game since they showing it to the press. Showing the game on E3 is pure advertising. And if it will be released not far away from E3 it'll be very good for the sales.
Maybe they even collect some prizes on E3.

It's impossible to say, if the game is at a level where it can be released then it may be but I don't see the point of announcing at e3

I wouldn't be surprised to at least see a playable demo come out for E3, but I wouldn't quite expect a gold announcement.

Gold announcement may be before/at/after e3. Is it really matter? The really important(I think, maybe it's not) is that this announcement(and therefore release) better be around(3-4 weeks) E3 so that the game will be hot from E3 and it'll boost sales.

I would wait until after e3 to announce gold, if the timing works. Realistically-speaking, a gold announcement for Prey at e3 would get overshadowed. Prey needs as little competition as possible, publicity-wise, for maximum impact.

i personally think there needs to be alot more advertising before announcing the gold status...i mean most people think it'll just be a straight forward 3d shooter (mainly the non 3drealms fans)...so i think they need to market what the game is about rather than what style the game will be played in...

you know, get some television adverts going...posters in magazines, pop-ups on computer game websites and stuff, i mean heck, i'm still seeing prince of persia two thrones adverts on the net

I don't know if this is true or not, considering the very positve press and word-of-mouth Prey is getting. I know of at least 3 other sales just based on me gushing over the games' features and environments. Prey is first on my "giggle" list, and frankly I'd be surprised if many other hardcore FPS players didn't feel the same way.

Yeah they've already showed the game, but only to the press. But on E3, there'll be a chance for (almost) anyone to play it... and who knows what "anybody's" mind can think up

Who cares about bunch of geeks? Hardcore players won't make real profit. There must be casuals involved.

I think if the game was close to gold Humna Head would be doing what ID did when Doom 3 went gold.

They didn't go to E3 in 04, the whole staff stayed at the office in crunch mode and finished up D3 instead of taking time off to show it off. I think we still have a few months before we hear a Gold announcement.

Quake 4's appeal game from Quake and the fact that people loved that. I don't think you can compare the appeal from Q4 with FEAR

Prey will have the appeal because 3DR is involved and the long development time.
Also the portal feature is really attractive I think.

I'm guessing a playable demo, or even an up to date demo reel. No doubt Prey is still a few months away, for final bugfixes and polishing. Imo of course.
