DNF - What timeperiod should he be from?
In DN3D, 3drealms got a lot of inspiration from 80s movies, such as:

They Live, Aliens, Evil Dead etc.

Do you think that 3drealms with DNF should move on to getting their inspiration from 00s/90s movies like:

Matrix, Sin City, Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill

Or should they keep with the old classic movies from the 80s?

IMO they should stick with the 80s movies! They were by far the best Who wouldnt love so see stuff from Commando, Terminator, The Thing, Re-Animator and some of the other great classics? To me Duke just is an 80s actionstar in the future :-)

What is your opinion?

I would also be interesting to hear GBs opinion on this?

I think a mixture of both would be best..! It would be sad if DNF only featured more of the same..!

Please for the love of god! no more trendy stylization and effects!! please!

I hope they get they're inspiration from everywhere, thats one of the most fun aspects about these kind of quality video games, the references and inspirations. When you think about, if you name some of the best games ever made or that you ever played...I bet most of them were packed with homages and references to past films and events. How many rubbish games can you name that are packed with the same old crappy trendy cliches and effects though..

wasn't this thread related to the cameo's and sidegags hidden throughout the game, rather then wich time-period it plays in?

I say go for '90-'00 age references. Not all people intending to buy/play DNF are old enough to get every reference

I think they should stick primarily with the 80's when it comes to borrowing one-liners. I would like it if Duke had a movie collection (which we could see, should we ever be in his home), with every movie he borrows lines from. Of course, the movies would have phoney names, such as 'They Die' instead of 'They Live.'

Mix.

Duke's universe is futuristic with gritty modern day elements in it, just like his range of weaponry. I hope the policy for DN games from now on is NOT to put a year to his time(1999/2007/etc.).

Duke himself however is representative of all action heroes from John Wayne and the varied avatars of Clint Eastwood to Arnold S, Bruce Willis and now possibly Vin Diesel. I guess he will continue to evolve and be a mixture of all these characters.

Thanks for the nice compliment I people actually read more than what it says in the poll they might understand what I mean "What timeperiod should Duke be from", NOT "What timeperiod should the game represent". Cannot see the problem.

Should he be an 80s actionhero (Beats all with ease)

Should he be a 90s actionhero (Anti hero, still army of one)

Should he be a actionhero from 00s (If there is such a thing)

Cannot see why people read is as "What time should DNF take place"

Edit: Oh get it now, not talking about the entire post But guess what I wrote is still relevant

Speaking of technology you are probably right - in the 70s hovercrafts were expected to be driven by everyone in the year 2000
But climate changes surely will have changed the face of the world by the time DNF is supposed to be set in. Just look at the current hurricans

Re: DNF - What timeperiod should he be from?

Someone said that Duke should have a movie collection of all the best action movies, and that this is where he gets all his quotes from. I think that would work nicely, because it would be a nice jab at how the Duke is an amalgam of all the best action heroes. The epitomy of all heroes.

But he should be 80's style but still set in maybe 2015 area. It should feel like Duke 3D. Old school feeling, new school setting imo of course.
