Can\'t install Max Payne - data3.cab file
Every time I try to install Max Payne, it says I need a data3.cab file. Do you know what's wrong? I have all the newest drivers for my video and sound card and the newest BIOS.

Re: Can\'t install Max Payne - data3.cab file
Delete your old installshield information.

1. There should be a folder called 'Installshield Installation Information' in your C:\Program Files, just open the folder and delete everything in there.

2. In case you don't find the folder you need to set the hidden files/folders visible:
2.a: Go to Start-Settings-Folder Options...
2.b: Select the View -tab.
2.c: You should see Hidden Files -part there with three options. Select 'Show all files'
2.d: Try the first part again.

3. You might also need to a) empty your Temp -folder located in C:\Windows\Temp and b) Re-start your system.

4. Also, make sure you delete the failed installation of Max Payne before trying again.

5. Install the game and enjoy.

Re: Can\'t install Max Payne - data3.cab file
Thanks for your help, but it still doesn't let me install the game. It always asks for Disc0 containing data3.cab at 24% during the installation.

Same problem here. I'm gonna try to get the file x_level3, i think that is causing the problem. If that fails, tech support hotline tomorrow.

Hmmm... so it didn't help.

I remember I had the same problem too... now how did I get rid of it if it wasn't there anywhere...

Lemme think about it couple hours...

Hi guys,

Here's a couple of things that have been known to solve the install problems:

1) Disable DMA from your CD rom

2) If that doesn't help, try copying all the files to a temp directory on your HD, then install the game from hard disk

Let me know if this works for you.

Try doing a min install instead of a full install ?

uhm, I don't think that data3.cab has anything to do with the Max Payne install whatsoever.

Re: Can\'t install Max Payne - data3.cab file
Hi!
I'm getting the same error messages: first 'data3.cab' then 'file x__2.dat' cannot be found. I tried the steps above to fix; it still comes up with a different 'insert disc0' message every time.

Re: Can\'t install Max Payne - data3.cab file
Get the CD replaced, it could be a faulty CD??

If you have more than one CD drive, have you tried installing it from here?

Try installing the game on a friends computer, do you still get the same problem?

Re: Can\'t install Max Payne - data3.cab file
Try going into control panel and then add/remove programs. Click the install button with the CD in the drive.

If you still have problems:

1) Uninstall the game, and delete the max payne folder

2) Delete the c:\windows\temp folder.

3) Click start, run and type in msconfig. Click the startup tab and untick everything in the list except loadpowerprofile, scanregistry, system tray and task monitor and restart your computer

4) Goto your CD-Rom properties and disable DMA

5) Right click my computer, select properties, performance, file system, cdrom, lower the read ahead optimisation to no read ahead and lower supplemental cache size.

6) Reinstall the game to the defualt directory.

Re: Can\'t install Max Payne - data3.cab file
Nothing works, looks like the only way to get it working, is to get someone who can read the CD properly (luckely, I know someone who does), to copy the data2.cab file to a CD-RW, give it to you, and then copy it to harddisk, then install it from harddisk......

I think data2.cab is the only one that messes up during copy, so that must be the corrupted file that ****s up the install........

The copying process should remove the error....

(If you try to copy to the harddisk yourself, the file will "dissapear" during the copying, making it uncopyable.......)

I'll try it sunday, and if it works, i'll post it on the board....

Re: Can\'t install Max Payne - data3.cab file
ok, guyz, i got it working!!!!

OK, here is how you do it........

1) Copy the whole CD-contens to HD
2) Check wich files do not copy correctly (dissapear during copying)
3) Go to someone who CAN install Max Payne, and let him copy those files to a CDRW
4) Copy them from the CDRW to your harddisk (with the rest of the "good" files , and install Max Payne from there...(setup.exe in the disk1 directory)...

IT WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
