Prey SDK Released
Something else people have been asking about for awhile is also being released this week. That's the Prey SDK. If you don't know what an SDK is, it's code and materials to allow folks to create their own mods for Prey. Here's what Human Head had to say about the SDK release..

The Prey SDK includes all of the game code (for building your own Game DLL), as well as some code examples/tutorials which will explain a few of the basic things you should know before diving into the code-base. This SDK distribution also compiles without issue in the free version of MSVC++ 2005 (Express Edition). Check out the included ReadMe for more information on that, as well as other modding and development resources. We're all looking forward to seeing what kind of new modifications the community comes up with, so good luck!

This is available for free from the links in our Prey downloads page, so if you're interested in modding games, this will be of interest to you. If you'd like to check out the readme before downloading the whole SDK, you can do that here.

Indeed. Hopefully, some of the impressive stuff people have done with Doom 3 will start to spring up for Prey now.

Fixed. It was right on the news story on the main site and the downloads page, but I botched the URL in my forum post.

Definitelly good news , seems to come with code that wasn't released before that was part of the Doom 3 engine, like idCollisionManager.

wow after browsing the code a little, I found there is cooperative gameplay code in there ?
how good is it working ? / how far have you come with it ?
and are you going to finish it or is it just in there for modders to complete?

Re: Prey SDK Released
I thought the collision manager was closed source part of the Doom 3 engine. I liked looking through it Doom 3 has a nice collision system, wonder why it was included in the prey source(accident?), sence its still pulling the pointer from the engine.

Now that the collision system is open source what what we could do with a triggerable collision system?

The class inheretiance is kind of annoying but makes sence why theyd have it, it reminds me for some reason of looking through the Shadow Warrior source code.

The SDK has been re-issued this afternoon. The link to the newer version:

Not much has changed, just a couple of files that were incorrect, HH sent along this newer version, and asks that you use this one instead of the original release.

Re: Prey SDK Released
Why would they bother to remove the CM code and re-release? It was already out for days, and I'm sure everyone has a copy by now.

Oh well, what's done is done. Just seems silly to back track over one small component, especially when it could be quite helpful to the community. The full Doom 3 source code probably isn't too many years away from being released anyway.

That's understandable, and it was a mistake of course, but now that it's all over the net...and I mean ALL over...removing it is kind of pointless. I found it online in less than 30 seconds....from multiple sources. To borrow a tired phrase, "you can't stop the signal". At least it was only the collision source and not the renderer...that could have been far worse....although, our mod could certainly use some extra info about the renderer for The Dark Mod. Our lead coder had to do some crazy tricks to get a Thief style lightgem working for us. I hope the doom 3 source code goes open source sooner than later.

Re: Prey SDK Released
Exactly like SS2, great game choppy multiplayer and the SDK released too late.

And the game died in our hands.
