What does the brown nazi say?

In Wolf3D, what does this guy say? The Wolf3D Dome says its 'Halt!', but it most definatly isnt. I though a remember seeing what it was somewhere on 3DR's site, but cant find it now.

Hmm... perhaps, doesnt sound like it though. Besides, why would a German phrase mean a German word?

I always thought it sounded like "Look John!" for some reason when I was younger, so thats basically what I hear everytime I play the game

heh, I really misheard htem when i was little. I also used to think he was naked and said HUT SARGE. At the time (around summer 1992) I was playing one of the earlier shareware releases which only had one death sound for the brown guys, being "AGH." I was a bit freaked out when we registered because I've noticed they had new additional death sounds :O

I also always thought the blue guys said PEE STOPPER and then said MY NAMEN when they died.

Also the Hitler ghosts dying, ..."OHH, IM CAPTAIN NEMO!!!" and those white guards "BEGONE !!!!"

I guess it's the low frequency playback actually. I had the same for Blake Stone's enemies, thought I heard "BLAKE!!!" when i shot a guard, "YOUR!!!" when i set off an enemy scientist, "YOUR DAD" when i made one of those hulk guys angry... lol

When I think of Wolf3D, I usually think of:

*Gunshots*
"Mein Laben!"
*Aquired machine gun*
*Door Opening*
"Halten Sie!"
*Rapid gunshots*

*Aquired chaingun*
*Door Opening*
*Exit level switch pulled*

I would love to play Wolf3d, but I hate the PC version. The mac version is loads better IMO

EDIT: Oh yeah, and when I was little I thought he was a fireman :/

Those are the different versions. Look at the Jaguar one

Those sprites look odd, and why is the doom pistol used? Wierd.

EDIT - Wait no, I'm wrong, there is an official mac one.

The mac version is like SNES one, except the texture graphics are a bit better. The Mac version was fun, but PC version is bad IMO

In what way though? The snes one was shorter and had very wierd 'half' levels and strange guns.

I prefer the dos one.

I never played the SNES one, but from the screenshots it looked very similiar. On the Mac one, the sounds were better and I actually got music to work. Also, the guns look MUCH better. It uses the Doom chaingun, and the pistol looks similiar to the Doom one, but it was loads better. Textures were less pixilated as well.

Neither do I, but it was too late for me. I was already spoiled with newer-age games. One of the other reasons I hated it was because my computer would make beeping noises often, and it got annoying :/

I liked old DOS games as well, but I'm just too spoiled to play PC Wolf3D. I will probably play Wolfendoom, but it won't feel the same :/

I just checked a german dictionary - I searched halten and it came up with halt. I remember "sie" to be a form of "it", so I think it may be "hold it!". That's my guess.

Time to brush up your German, I think...
if you write 'sie' you adress a group of people - 'they'
while 'Sie' (notice the capital letter) is also used to adress someone directly 'you'.

The thing that's maybe a little confusing to english speaking people: You adress people different according to their status in relation to you. Yu don't only have one version of you, but two ('Du' and 'Sie'). If iyou adress someone you don't know, or it's very formal or the other person is maybe older than you (your friend's parents for example) you usually use 'Sie'.
"Ich grüße Sie." - "Greetings to you."

Colloquial, among friends and people you know better you say 'Du'.
"Ich grüße Dich" - "Greetings to you."

No - it's not a mistake that both translations are the same.

In that manner it'd be right and wrong what the Nazi's saying. Grammatically correct but unlikely. He wouldn't have respect of an American intruder trying to kill him. So it would have been more likely: "Bleib' stehen!" or something like that.
Wolfenstein's German is overall extremely bad, though
