EDuke32 1.4.0 beta 2 released
First off, this release is huge. I don't think there has been a bigger list of changes in any prior EDuke32 release, or any release of any other port for that matter. I'm not going to go into what all of the new features are, but here are links to the ChangeLog and to the downloads page on the EDuke32 site:
Downloads ChangeLog Enjoy, guys. Make sure to try out all of the new multiplayer features, including the new support for both Dukester X 1.5 and the 2.0 preview Addfaz released today.

Small Bug Found...
When selecting an episiode then selecting the level skill you dont hear Duke say the taugnt of the skill eg. Damn Im good, yeah pieace of cake. And is the titles on the main screen flashing a new feature? or has that allways been there?

Re: EDuke32 1.4.0 beta 1 released
The flashing is a new "feature" I added to spice things up a bit, and the level skill sound not playing is a known issue that's the result of rigging things up to support JFAud in the future.

Re: EDuke32 1.4.0 beta 1 released
Congratulations! So much for catching up on my sleep.
Edit: Just started using it. Looks, great, but I noticed a couple things When using the Hi-res pack, the chaingun does not display correctly. The top of the low-res image can be seen, with a hi-res image starting just below it (it looks like Duke has two sets of knuckles). In general, it looks as though the hi-res weapon graphics are displaying slightly lower on the screen, so that we see less of the them. [IMG][/IMG] From changelog: " *attempt to correct display perspective in order to properly display HUD models" Coincidence? Also, I noticed that there is faint box around the TRANSPORTERSTAR animation which I had not seen before. I would not have noticed this except that I have a weapon in my mod that displays this animation very frequently.

Re: EDuke32 1.4.0 beta 1 released
Having some crash problems with Mapster32 in 3D mode, not sure if this is a known issue or just some fluke on my machine (I'd been having them pretty fiercely before the update, but now it took a while for it to occur). Here's the Mapster log that appears to be from when the crash occurred:
Quote:
Hope this helps... if you need anything more, let me know - I'm saving the entire log as we speak so that I can produce it, and if you feel you should see the map (though it happens regardless of map) I was working in, I have it saved in the exact state it was right before the crash. And if there is a fix that I was blind and didn't find (a likely scenario), I apologize for wasting your time. If this is a known issue that you're working to resolve, I apologize for the redundancy as well.

What did you do right before the crashes occurred, and what video mode, et cetera are you using? It says you deleted a sprite.. what was after that?

Re: EDuke32 1.4.0 beta 1 released
After I deleted the sprite more than five seconds previous to the crash (it was just an extra floor decoration), I just moved around a bit to get a better view to start doing some shading work. My video mode for Mapster32 was 640x480x8 for both 2D and 3D modes, no HRP, set to windowed mode.
EDIT: It happened again, this time without any sprites involved. Quote:
The crashes never happen when just placing sprites or adjusting something; they always come when I'm moving in 3D mode. I have Visual Studio .NET on this computer... want me to hit "Debug" next time it crashes and try to give you better feel for what's going on? EDIT 2: Okay, it happened again in the same spot, so I did the whole disassembling thing. This is the line that the break supposedly occurred at, deassembled (I'm horrible at programming, so this might be pretty shaky as I had no idea what to look for): Quote:

Re: EDuke32 1.4.0 beta 1 released
One more thing: SE 21/ST 28 seems to be broken. It didn't work in my usermap, so I figured I did it wrong, but it didn't work in the Map Faq tutorial file, either.

Does "removed usegoodalpha" mean no more alphahacks are required? If so, I will remove them from the HRP Update Pack def files.
Otherwise: Hail to TerminX, baby. Too bad there´s still no OGG/MP3 support, but that´s JonoF´s job to provide...

Re: EDuke32 1.4.0 beta 1 released
Its SUPPOSED to work. I havent tested it myself, but its the Drop Down Cieling I think. Maybe it glitched.
I havent played around with it, but Mapster32 changed my brightness on the monitor. But it changed back when I quit. |

Re: EDuke32 1.4.0 beta 1 released
That's how hardware gamma works, GodBlitZor. By the way, you guys might notice that the 3D mode mouse cursor is unfortunately even more inaccurate than before when using Polymost. This is a side effect of the projection hack used to fix the HOM on the top and the bottom of the screen; you'll have a lot better luck selecting stuff if you press F3 to turn on mouse look.

Re: EDuke32 1.4.0 beta 1 released
The SE and ST I'm having problems with are the "drop floor/ceiling" ones. Load up the JS Build's Map FAQ, go to room 6B, and test it out. It doesn't work in this version, but it works in DOS Duke. I flipped the switch and nothing happened.

Re: EDuke32 1.4.0 beta 1 released
They seem to work fine for me. I think what happened is that some of the things in the map are tagged wrong.. a likely scenario is that you loaded the map, said "ooh, stuff to shoot" as you ran by 5A, and then shot the SEENINE/OOZFILTER/EXPLODINGBARREL which ended up triggering the drop ceiling effect. Am I close?

Re: EDuke32 1.4.0 beta 1 released
Nope, and it's not the only map either.
I'm going to try it on a different system tonight (I'm going out of town for the weekend). Now, on another note: are you accepting donations?

Well, I hate to write this guys, really, but... someone should figure out the changes necessary for the HUD weapon defs.

Re: EDuke32 1.4.0 beta 1 released
Are you sure that you didn't hit any of the other buttons? I tried the effect in _SE.MAP, _ST.MAP, and the TUTORIAL.MAP you spoke of, and it worked in all three of them (except in the case that I mentioned where I shot the explosives/fiddled with other effects first which set it off).
As for donations.. yeah, I accept them, but I prefer not to discuss things of that nature publicly in too much detail. Feel free to PM me with any questions you have. I have the donation stuff set up on SourceForge, but I prefer not to use it because they take a cut and because it all goes through PayPal. |

Re: EDuke32 1.4.0 beta 1 released
Nice update TerminX - A big shame that compatible48x hasn't released the music source as it would be really nice to have ogg support with this. I see you released a version of duke3d_w32.exe with the update. Is there a way to play ogg music and hrp using this? ( or is this just for multiplayer support ?).
I guess Jonof must be tied up with other things but you mention above that you have "rigged things up " ready for Jfaud support - is this likely in the forseable future ? If not maybe there is some other work around . Thx again for the work you put in. |

Re: EDuke32 1.4.0 beta 1 released
The duke3d_w32.exe I include is just a dummy exe that fiddles with the command line parameters and sends the reworked string of them to eduke32.exe, so that people can play with Dukester X 1.5.1 if they want. The changes I mentioned relating to JFAud are from JonoF; JFAud should hopefully be finished sometime in the near future.
By the way, guys, here's a snapshot of Mapster32 with a couple of mouselook fixes, a fix to return the 3D mode selection pointer to the previous accuracy it had (as flawed as it was, it was still better than the bugged version I released), and a fix for a problem I noticed where random pieces of strings were ending up in mapster32.log. |

That's just SourceForge being ass I guess. It seems to download fine for me... oh well, you get what you pay for, and I don't pay anything for SF hosting.
