And you should know that when you adapt a video game or a novel for a movie, you need to change some things to make the whole "watchable"

This means that the story of the movie is dark, and the character not so invicible.

If you want to laugh, no problem, but remember at least that a little French guy has had the courage to do a movie on the great Duke Nukem.

Moreover the movie hasn't even started shooting, so be patient.

I'm well aware of what goes into making an adaptation. We've seen snapshots, fanart, songs, short skits, machinima by people parodying Duke Nukem and they've been fun. Humour has been a steady part of the contemporary Duke Nukem mythos and those fans knew to exploit the camp. So however this movie turns out, I hope it's not too serious.

And your lead does not look like Duke from that picture. Hence, my query/suggestion of a spoof element, before you commit your decisions to film. But I'll take your advice and wait for the movie.

Seriously? Well that depends on the kind of success you're going for. If you want a local success (like in your local france area, whereever you are.) then staying with french+english subtitles is fine.

However, speaking as a duke nukem fan, I dunno. I can't imagine Duke speaking french... mostly because hes the epiphany of an American Action Hero.

I don't think it would effect the quality of your story or anything... It could turn some viewers though.

I think you're right because others french amateur moviemakers have done a spoof about Back to the future and it has been a great success worldwide and it was in French, subtitled in English.

But I want others answers.

PS : for me it wouldn't be a problem to shoot the movie in English but the actors are afraid they can't imitate the American accent.

French with English subtitles is good for local stuff, but since Duke is an American hero and I am American and, like all Americans, I only speak 2 languages, good English and bad English, I would like to see it in English. The accents, well, don't matter that much. I don't mind reading subtitles being that I do it all the time anyway because I cannot hear well.

But that was a spoof and your movie isn't. If I can hear the same tones, modalities of Duke in the french one-liners then I won't mind at all. It takes some careful listening and practice to get it right. As for the other characters, we don't really know them so won't care for authenticity.

You have to see what works. Set up a rehearsal and try. As I said, french Duke (subtitled) with believable acting and persona is fine by me. If that doesn't ring as being true, then stick to English so we at least know who the character is supposed to be.

Well well, thank you for your answers. I'm gonna think about it. But first of all, I will translate the dialogs in English.

But the problem is the actors. Some of them have no problem with English, others are blokes and will have difficulties to learn a text in English.

But whatever language the movie will be shot, the actor who plays Duke will have the Duke attitude (at least at the end of the movie) so don't be afraid.

But the most important with the onliners, it's the voice. Duke's voice is like, if you don't get it right, it's not duke. The probleme is also to find a old man to play the role. Your cast seems full of brave people that are motivated, but they are young, I hope they will get the feeling of the game right.

I think you'll be disappointed if you expect a film looking exactly like the game, but just see it as a good movie... Remember, the Resident Evil films ditched the whole survival horror concept and turned the game into Hollywood action! If you want those films to be like the game series, you'll hate them, but if you see them as Hollywood action they are quite entertaining...

Exactly. If the Duke movie will be like the game, it would be a simple B movie or even Z movie. The movie will be darker than the game and because I haven't the means of Hollywood, I need to focus on the psychology of the characters.

You will not see Pigcops, Battlelords or Assault Troopers in this movie but you will see a terrifying doctor Proton, full of hate. And this is easy to make.

Hey man, I admire you attempting this, its a huge thing. I have a an animated film in the works myself, I think 3D Realms will give you all the praise and criticism you could want when you release. I doubt that they have not looked in here yet.

Casting is over !!! And shooting will begin this Thursday if the weather is with us.
The movie will be shot in French and subtitled in English.

The scene we're gonna shoot includes doctor Proton. I will post a screenshot of Proton from the shooting.
