Re: "Grabbag" fan remix contest
1st April 2008 (5 years birthday of Duke Nukem 3D code).
Submissions could be closed at midnight (GMT+1), but I don't think we'll have more contesters till this time ...

So now (and this is not an April fish).....................................

Our contesters in alphabetical order :

Bobthefish : http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page...songID=6332454
Carbohydrom : http://carbohydrom.free.fr/music/Car...klear_Duke.mp3
Nukkus : http://rapidshare.com/files/88589996...rtion.mp3.html
tGz : http://www.vgmix.com/download.php?mo...21&song_id=312
Vertexguy : http://www.vertexguy.com/music/tributes/CPK-dukejam.mp3

Just send a note such as "MyFavoriteName +1" and we'll count the points...

In my opinion, 2 weeks offers enough time to all boardmembers to vote so deadline of Friday 11st April sounds good (Mariokart release in europe yeahh).
Afterwhat I'll require winners name and postmail adress in order to prepare expeditions.

Additionnally, for the people that didn't win anything... as I'm back from Berlin Germany, so I bought some rocks of Berlin wall.
So any contester out of the last quarter will get a piece of rock, everyone will get a "prize".

Reminder of the prizes :
- 1st Prize, "OBUT" petanque set because you've "BALLS OF STEEL"
- 2nd Prize, "KEM" plastified poker deck to always "BET ON DUKE"
- 3rd Prize, "MALABAR" (french popular ones) bubblegums pack (but does FDA agree ?) to "CHEW BUBBLEGUMS"
- 4th Prize (Jury special), The Mystery Prize that'd "SHAKE IT BABY"

- Extra prize for non winners, A small rock (with official certificate) of the Berlin wall because you lost, but you "ROCK" anyway.

I'm of course open to any comment (^_^)

ok, some good news and bad news:
first the bad. i noticed at school today that the link to my duke theme went dead. i have just re-uploaded it. im really sorry if you experienced this, and hope you dont take this into account of voting

and good news,
it seems that my cover did well on soundclick!
it hit #2 on the metal coversongs a while back. (i didnt even tell anyone but you guys here about it. im really surprised. i didn't think it was that good)

EDIT: MAKE SURE you use the HI-FI link on Soundclick. this is way better sounding, as the low fi is re-incoded by soundclick for slower internet connections and sounds like crap

Re: "Grabbag" fan remix contest
That surprised me, because the link was correct this afternoon.
Do you think you can make me a copy of your song for my archives (this is the only one I didn't have), then I may offer a backup pack of all contesters...

People may D/L it and listen to it in train, on the toilets, while working on an Excel sheet... and so many other ways and decide their vote easily.

Whatever, the window is large enough to allow people to vote and send possible (kind and constructive) comments.

Concerning hope to win or not (that's the question)...
Well, basically with this extra Berlin wall "rock", every of our 5 contesters will win something...

Now I hope that they'd be few replies and votes from the 3DR forum community.
(Just to make look this vote better than a post communist country election )

Contesters could of course vote for themselves, or offer their vote to another contester (fairplay rocks !)
Vote is of course only allowed to 3DR forum members, as they need to be registered to post their vote here.

LET'S VOTE !

In my opinion, kick #1 Mario3 ass with an atomic boot is just a matter of hours, their live recorded sound is too noisy and saturated...

Note that we're April 3rd (GMT+1) and that you're bumper to bumper with BobTheFish.
Since my last note, every contester will now win some prize (heavy or small), and in my opinion this is great...

I sent a PM to around 20 people that wrote a word on this thread since the beginning and to Mr Siegler for information.
_____

Concerning your car matter, I'm in car industry, so could easily understand the costs to fix it.
That means you're typing on your keyboard and that you're fine and not injured. That's certainly the most important, isn't it...

Re: "Grabbag" fan remix contest
I really had an issue to choose for my vote, and I'd really like to thank all our contesters.
Find here my review...

BobTheFish :
I'm smashed by the fact that in just some weeks he built a really nice and clear sound, and copied by hear the forever video theme.
I really like when a sound is like cristal and the soudwave effects.

Carbohydrom :
Heavy and clear, with many mixer guitars and a punk rythm drums...
Made years I've this song on my office playlist and heard it hours while filling Excel sheets and that's maybe why I want to create such fan contest.

Nukkus :
Made exclusively for the fan contest, I really think that for an underwater level that'll fit perfectly the ambiance to fight with octobrains with a scuba system.

tGz :
Chiptune always reminds me my youth while crossing my pals to play on Amstrad 6128 and other oldies games... nostalgia forever !

Vertexguy :
Additionnal samples increases the immersion in his song...
While watching his Youtube videos, fingers are sometimes not enough to play guitar and he use a sixth finger to complete his solos, simply amazing, fast, accurate, just need a better sampling rate to reach perfection.

So vote is hard to decide but... Iceman57 : Carbohydrom +1

Re: "Grabbag" fan remix contest
Dear board members,

Well well well, the only think that I could say after seeing how evoluted this contest and the different posts is "he he he, what a mess".
I didn't suppose that it'll be so flaming for the vote period, but it seems that as for any vote, there's some collateral damages (^_^)
_________

As I'm the organisator of this fan contest, I'll try to clarify some points as would made an ODCE or UN member...
So... tact and diplomacy.

Concerning additionnal contesters

Dear Liquid, basically, the votes are now open and you were informed about this contest since the beginning.
Consequently, you couldn't normally join the contest, that's why I each time tried to put deadline with valid window time.

But I'm not a radical inquisitor, so in order to offer you a way, here is my purposal.
In any competition such as Cannes Festival, you've a "competition" and "out of competition".
So my purposal is that you offer your creation but couldn't contest for the 4 "big" prizes, only stay in "out of competition".

I bringed back 3 Berlin wall samples in my luggage, so if you agreed this purposal, you may win (if the board members estimate that your creation rocks) a small piece of Berlin wall rock at the end of the contest.

Hope you'll agree this purposal.
Kind regards.

PS : I hope this wont open a pandora box and will generate thousands of new contesters... I only have 3 samples.

Concerning votes

Well, I could suppose that most of you are over the legal age of respective countries.
So you certainly voted once...

Once the vote is in the box, well normally it's sealed till the end of the election, so I supposed that all of you simply vote for your favorite.

Trying to bring back your vote from the box, may look this contest a an african or post cosmunist country election massive fraud.
Include some conditions to change your vote is as lobbying, and not really admitted, so this must be a joke

So here is my purposal, as I'm not radical inquisitor (blah blah blah see up )

-> Edit all the posts concerning your votes one for all (while they still could be edited), and then consider them as definitive.

I'll extract a copy of board page on April 11 night (before to play Mariokart ).... and then count the points, afterwhat we'll have our winners.

Additional note

All comments and votes welcome.
Have a pleasant hearing of the contesters creations and for the other nice links that may appear on this thread.

Regards from Paris, France.

Wow, impressive !! (especially the intro).
I couldn't D/L in the office (file transfert under survey ) so just heared it now while watching TV...
If you agree my purposal and if the other board members estimate that your sound is nice enough you'll get your Berlin wall piece of "rock" at the end of the contest.

BobTheFish :
Concerning song download, that's only for personnal archive, and I already added "Chris Bulman" in the song name.

Need to see replies from other contesters from the board...
Basically I've no objections for such exceptions (as I'm not contesting), but they are contesting

I just planned the costs and whatever we've more contesters that didn't change a thing for me...
The maximum could be 8 contesters, afterwhat I'll be out of stock for prizes.

As this contest is just for fun, you could easily be added.
My main issue is also that the #81 post could no more be edited

Note that they are only 20 people that saw this thread since the beginning and which I sent a PM.
So those who already voted may not give you their votes...
Some voters may not see your creation till the voting window ends.
That's quite complicated for you to win a big prize while starting a week later to contest.

Let's see other contesters notes... (Nukkus, Bob ?... your opinion)

Otherwise, that'd be a rock from Berlin's wall (with its certificate) as announced in my purposal. A piece of history, that's quite nice, isn't it ?
#5 and following will get those rocks, so every contester will get some funny prize.

What do you think about ?...

Although an "All + 1" would be more fitting.

Vote to this fan contest is open to any 3DR board member.

You can only offer one vote (see details up concerning the voting "mess" )
You can modify your vote till your post is editable.
You can also offer your (constructive) comments on the different artist, or links to your own creation, videos or other fan remixes...

Concerning the mystery prize, it's not a drink
(I may have FDA issue, I had wine rejected recently that costed me 50 USD for nothing, the package made a round trip )

Let's vote !!

Postmail adress collection under progress...

Get a reply from Mr St John for an "audio" quotation.
He offered a reduced cost for the contest first prize, but this was to late as I already purchased them and planned the prizes since a long time.

Really kind guy (^_^)
