Duke Nukem I Recreated in DNII
This is probably a very out of the ordinary topic in the 3D Realms forums, but has anyone considered recreating Duke Nukem 1 on the graphics of Duke Nukem II. It would add a considerable amount of atmosphere to the first game. Plus, I'm curious to see what the EGA monsters would appear with more pixels. I would have it instead that the original gun from the first game was integrated into the game, rather than reuse the gun Duke uses against the Rigelatins (because he retrieved the latter gun from busting out of the prison cell). It would also be cool to see Dr. Proton as a larger, more Duke Nuke II styled boss (Duke's size, but the chair is deadlier, and the fight is longer).
A long list would have to be written about how the game would look with the appearance of Duke Nukem II, but would this be an idea that other Apogee enthusiasts would be interested in, hypothetically? |

It'll look the same, and no one is interested in a remake.

Re: Duke Nukem I Recreated in DNII
I disagree. It would look different, because the engine allows for a greater attention to detail and more expansive artistic backgrounds than the first Duke.
Probably no one would play a remake, except for a truly uber classic Apogee Duke Nukem fan (Which we have plenty of). |

I'd love to see such a thing. But I don't think there are editor tools for Duke Nukem II are there?

That is too bad, I would love to have seen another DOS game utilizing the DN2 Engine. |

Re: Duke Nukem I Recreated in DNII
I'm planning to recreate level 1 in my Duke2 level pack, but I don't believe it'll look the same.

Re: Duke Nukem I Recreated in DNII
It would look the exact same, I don't remember the exact differences between the two engines but if I remember right the only thing thats different is the tiles are more detailed and the hud is more detailed in DN 2.

Re: Duke Nukem I Recreated in DNII
Nope. The biggest differences are the colors used by the games (Duke 2 has neither cyan nor magenta) and the size of the tiles. The Duke 1 levels are composed of tiles sized 16x16 pixels, while Duke 2 uses 8x8 pixels. Plus, the levels in Duke 1 are always 128x90 tiles (2048x1440 pixels). Duke 2 levels can have different sizes, but the total amount of tiles per level is fixed to 32750 tiles, so that a level of 256x127 tiles (2048x1016 pixels) is as close as you can get to the original level size.
