One of the questions submitted to the askprey email request was what was going to be in the Collector's edition. Hopefully Chris answers that, as to be honest, I'd like to know myself.

With this game, there will not be a direct order option from 3DR, unlike practically all of our past games. Instead, the direct order option is being routed through Game xStream (which will soon have a new, shorter, better name -- announcement coming soon).

As developers, we make more money via Game xStream orders, but don't let that sway you! We appreciate any sell.

Also, just so everyone knows, we're also heavily testing the Game xStream service. In fact, ALL beta testing of Prey is happening through Game xStream, and the service is benefiting from polishing improvements just as the game itself is.

I really think gamers are going to like Game xStream, as the company and us have studied Steam in detail and are making improvements to make Game xStream superior and more friendly to the user in every way possible.

Anyone who visits Game xStream now is going to run up against a butt-ugly GUI, and a sad interface design, but this is all being TOTALLY revamped and the templates we've seen behind-the-scenes are a vast improvement.

We hope to have pre-ordering and pre-cashing of Prey available several weeks before the game's commercial release.

We've also completed a kick-ass new 3 minute trailer for Prey, and I'm working on a deal to release it through a major game site asap, and then it'll also be available through ATI and Game xStream, and any other site that wants to carry it. We release it through a game site first because retailers look to the hits that game sites like GameSpot get for a game, and they use that data to determine the interest level for a game. ( <-- major inside info ) So, publishers and developers are basically forced to cater to this system, and that means giving sites like GameSpot or IGN a short exclusive period on new video releases. It really benefits the game's initial sell-in if a LOT of people hit these two sites reading and searching for stories/articles/news on Prey. Sucks, but it is as it is.

Any reason you guys didn't go through Steam? I mean the biggest issue with me is using another content delivery system when I already am using Steam. It would be better for me to have all my games on one service rather then two, regardless of which service it is.

It is a similar issue with using AIM and MSN etc.. I'd rather use something like Trillian then have each app seperately.

I'm sure this is a issue that many people would agree with.

Well, I'll definately reconsider then as I'd really like to support you guys the best way I can, if that means more money in your pockets, that's fine by me.

Totally agreed. I downloaded the beta version(?) of the service and it's simply an awful interface. I didn't care for the layout of the gui nor the color/skin of the application. As a matter of fact, I think it'd be a neat idea to be able to customize the gui with different skin selections.

As for the overall performance of the service though, I was impressed for the time I spent with it. I streamed the Return to Castlewolfenstein demo and it ran flawlessy. No hiccups, stutters, crashes, nothing. I've got a 4mb down/500 up broadband connection and it really was a fast, smooth experience streaming the movie clips and playing the game demos.

Well the only thing we know about that is this little quote from Game Matters:

However Scott did mention that pre-chaching in his post and I can't see them not using it for that.

Applying the technology to the master files can even turn the CD or Gold Master into a streaming device. Turning a PC into a console. This means that the Game xStream technology can turn any retail sold CD into a Tray-n-Play CD. Imagine putting in a game (CD) and playing it within seconds, that would normally require upwards of 45 minutes to install! The benefits to the consumer become very apparent, and takes the normally boring install time and turns it into play time, giving the consumer the instant gratification they desire.

So Game XStream can be used as an installation program.

I will be buying PREY retail, and not using Game xStream. While it does sound like an interesting concpet, I don't mind installing the game regularly. I actualy enjoy it.
While the game goes through it's install process I get time to run through the manual and any other cool shit that came with it.

With FEAR, I put the DVD in and hit install, then pulled out the comic book that came with the Collector's edition and read through it. But, to each his own.
But I do know a lot of gamers would/will love the concept of putting a disc in and playing right away.

Well I got Half-life 2 from an ATI voucher and that could work both via steam and mail-ins for digital and physical distribution respectively.

How about tying it into a Prey (Coll. Ed) download key instead of general GxS credit? Would that work? I'm not saying I'd necessarily go for it, just want to know if it's an option.
