Always bet on E3 2010?
E3 - Electronic Entertainment Expo, the world's premiere event for the interactive entertainment industry. Spanning over a week, various different companies in the industry get together and show new products, concepts and ideas. This year E3 will be held at Los Angeles Convention Center between June 15-17. Among the many exhibiting companies, there is Take-Two, which I will be covering in this thread.

The "closure" of 3D Realms was in May 2009, and the news of this became of course Hot Coffee, for all parties really. Dating E3 2009 to June 2-4, which Take-Two also attended, the media etc. got roughly a month to prepare questions regarding the status of 3D Realms and the heavily anticipated Duke Nukem Forever. As I was not attending E3 that year (I work within the industry), I cannot account for any discussions that happened at Take-Two's booth/meeting room, but I could sure bet a nickel or two that there were some feisty happenings there. If the trendsetting Take-Two decides to continue there strategy with impairment of Duke Nukem and 3D Realms, this year's E3 could see even more anger, confusion and delay.

It has been argued that the alleged court date for the case between 3D Realms and Take-Two could be in the middle of the year, somewhere around the time of E3. Say that this is not the case and that the court date is eventually postponed some months. What effects could this have upon Take-Two's performance at E3 seeing as they would have to probably fend off some unwelcome questions? Considering that major video game sites such as IGN, GameTrailers, GameSpot and similar are usually documenting live from the show, there could be many raised eyebrows about this suggested scenario, and that would not be good for Take-Two's reputation.

I might be attending E3 this year and I'm hoping to dig something up about all this hiatus. But what do you think, if this whole thing continues without a visible end (before June), could Take-Two eventually be forced to do something about it (drop the charges, allow 3D Realms to release media etc.)?

I think that it is a rather bold thing of Take-Two to attend at E3 because of what has been going on for some time. Who knows, perhaps it's done and that E3 will be the place where Duke can park his bricks.

"E3 is irrelevant" these are the words of our only friend Scott Miller, or at least the guy who gets hopes up AND THEN CRUSHES THEM. the question i have is. "Would GT interactive have pulled this crap if they were still the publishers?" or is it just those greedy basterds at Take Two who love to hurl over publicised mediocre piles of dung to the public. AT TOP DOLLAR TOO... Anybody know what's coming next from Take Two? i'll bet it's not Duke, 3Drealms should fight for the publishing rights back and do it themselves.

---------- Post added at 11:59 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:57 AM ----------

they should publish all of their own games, after DNF is released there will be plenty of cash on hand

Re: Always bet on E3 2010?
While we see DNF as the "OMG-AMAZING" game, the gaming industry pretty much moved on from it. If it comes out, yay, otherwise they don't really care anymore, if not about joking more about how it's taking forever to come out. If Take 2 attends E3, is because they have plenty of big things to show, and they're sure not to disappoint. All the talking will be about their new projects, and with such a big company you can be sure there'll be people talking about them. But yeah, let's imagine the scenario someone asks something about the court going on:
- first of all, most people seeing/hearing it wouldn't have a clue about what he's talking about
- second, T2 guys would simply say that the case is still not finished so they can not comment about it, very easy
- third, if the case is finished, whether they won or not (though I really don't see how 3DR can win it), they will be on E3, and 3DR won't, so it will be their one-sided opinion and nothing else

I am not too worried about how T2 will pull this off to be honest, in fact I'd love the case to end for E3, so that maybe we get to know the game's future at that point.

this whole court case thing with duke nukem forever has taught me that there are no good game journalists... nobody, i mean NOBODY ever did some digging in this whole hiatus few months after the whole thing started...

any journalist with some sense of journalism would try to get some info about the court stuff the most hyped and mythic videogame is involved with...

I say we send George some free tickets to E3 and get him really drunk. Then when he's feeling all proud about how DNF puts that Eidos crap to shame, we get our "Lovely and Seductive Escort" to coax him out of his Mainframe login and download DNF to a large flash drive like in Mission Impossible.

Like when they announced 3DR is closing?

That was big wasn't it. If they announced that DNF is done the Internet would explode.

Reason? Your post amuses me slightly, Joe, because I have a hard time seeing how anyone can find any reason due to "the dissolving of the 3DR development studio". With all Scott has teased, all videos leaked, Duke reading samples from Microsoft Word and all sorts of deranged things I don't know what to expect anymore. I would not be surprised (though a bit startled) if this whole thing would be revealed as a hoax or similar (not that it will, of course...), or if the release date is announced in some glorious way (for example at E3). You talk about reason? This is not reason, this is madness.

How is it going by the way, Joe, have you found any new job yet?
