early on at high school, my friend bought the kill-a-ton collection and started mapping... I was introduced to it one day after school when he showed me the map of our school he'd been working on... I was instantly amazed

Duke Nukem 3D was the first game I bought when I got my first PC. I had never seen any reviews or played the shareware. I had a Pentium 150 with 16 megs of ram and a 1.35 gig hard drive. I used AOL to connect to the Internet (such as it was in 1995) using a 28.8 modem.

Re: So how were you Introduced to DUKE NUKEM?
The local grocery store had a spinner rack with all kinds of shareware games. I started buying a couple at a time and quickly discovered that the Apogee games were vastly superior to the other companies on display, so I started buying as many of their games as I could. One of them happened to be the original Duke Nukem. I liked it, but it wasn't my favorite. I preferred Cosmo and Keen and some others.

The one I put off until the end was Wolf3D. From the pictures, I thought it was some kind of Hogan's Alley thing where the Nazis popped up and you used your mouse to simulate a light gun. Well, it finally got to where it was the only one left, so I bought it. Totally blown away. It was the kind of game I could only have dreamed about before.

By the time Duke3D came out, I knew all about FPSs, naturally. I followed it from the time Apogee had some images on a shareware release. It was one of those games where I was just dying for it to come out and would think about it every day, reading the magazine articles over and over. I had a warehouse job at the time, and I'd find a quiet corner and draw maps I intended to build and stuff like that.

Early on, I was obsessed with DNF, too. I was kind of cured of that. Also, I tend to have more patience waiting for games in general--partly from growing up, partly from learing the lesson of DNF--so there aren't really any that I just wig out waiting to play.

My first Duke experience was Duke Nukem : Time to Kill on PSX. Then it was DN3D on PC, and DN2 and DN1 sometime later. DN3D on MD is my last Duke game so far. I'm waiting for DNF... hopefully my gaming machine is good enough for it (I could beat Crysis so it should be sufficient).

I started off playing Duke Nukem 1 on my dad's Tandy 2500 XL/2 when I was 5 (didn't beat it until just a few weeks ago, however.) After the packard bell was bought I learned of Duke 3D and the rest of the KillATon collection, many a fun hour were spent playing those games.

I think I was in the 6th grade when Time to Kill came out. I wanted the game after seeing the commercial. Much to my parents' protest my uncle bought me the game. I was given Zero Hour a couple years later, then someone gave me their copy of Duke Nukem 3D which includes Duke Nukum and Duke Nukem II. At a computer show I bought the Atomic Edition and Blood. It came to be a couple years ago that I could no longer install from the Atomic Edition disc so I bought a second copy of it.

All I remember is going to my friends house and playing the first couple of levels of DN 3D over and over again on a crappy PC with the shareware disk. I was young, so I didn't really understand it. But the memories of the level design and old graphics stuck with me.

At the time I loved Duke Nukem 2. I never heard of Duke Nukem 3d. My Dad showed it to me and he let me play it. I had the most fun ever. You could walk ,jump, shoot things and it was a 3d world. Which at the time was a big deal. PS1 was the thing then so I played Duke Nukem Kill-a-ton on there and loved it.

I first discovered Duke3D in a game store back in 96 when the shareware version had just come out.
Someone working in the store was installing it and began to test the game as I stood there alone to watch it. I was amazed...
Later that day more and more people came to the store wanting to play it and soon the store was totally overfilled with people.
Everyday after school me and some classmates went directly to that same store to play it, and we had to wait in lines of other people since the hype never seemed to end
Kind of a nice memory back then..

My oldest brother Chris bought me Duke Nukem 3D for Christmas in 1996. He said he went into Best Buy and asked them what the best new computer game out was, and the guy pointed right at DN3D and said... get it. Trust me, just get it.

The shareware version of the original duke nukem was pre-installed on my first pc when i got it in the early 90's. When duke 2 came out i brought the full version and must have finished it 100 times.

I then got duke 3d when it came out. me and my friends used to do late night duke matches fairly often.

I remeber back in 96 - 97 in my 6th grade class I befriended a new kid who I began talkin about video games on snes and finally the pc. Now the only pc game I played prior was a jurassic park rts although I had heard of doom and wolfenstine the games were never available to me. Till one day my friend's estranged father picked up duke 3d for my friend who let me borrow it. I was so hooked I went out (every $20 I had was worth one mowed lawn ) bought the atomic version twice cause the only available was the parental content gimped one and finally the duke kill a ton kollection as well as any add on I could find. Eventually I bought unreal doom and quake but they never held a candle to my addiction to the duke games.
