Doors
I have tried to make doors. It didn't work. I tried copying doors from levels already made and that doesn't work. If someone out there knows what to do, could they help me out?!

Re: Doors
Make a sector and add a lowtag of 20 to the sector (this will be the door sector). Then in 3d-mode lower the ceiling of the door sector so that it touches the ground. The lowtag of 20 defines it as a door <!> don't leave that out <!>. This type of door will raise when you hit the space bar. You can also add something like a H-128 L-10 SECTOREFFECTOR to make it auto-close.
Check the buildhelp file to get the sector tags of other doors. If you don't enter the sector tags the door won't work. You are probably missing those tags...if not...be specific with what type of door you're having problems with. Hope I helped |

Re: Doors
Don't get me wrong, but WHY posting questions that have easiest answers right in buildhlp.exe? I mean, isn't it more complicating to connect to internet, go to www.3drealms.com, then to Forum, then choose Build forum, and then take your time to post questions like 'how to make a door'(to dukeboy - this is not an insult! don't get me wrong!!) instead of just reading offline buildhlp.exe?
On the other hand, if this is some kind of weird bug... Well... THAT is interesting. But on my own experience I know that if something is not working, but 100% is supposed to be, then you probably missed something. One time I was making a level in c:\games\duke3d, and tried to load it in c:\duke3d, because I had both directories open for file transfer! And since it was older version in c:\duke3d, I had hard time wondering why there is no ambient sound I just added! [This message has been edited by JustSomeGuy (edited 05-15-2000).] |

Re: Doors
Thanks Dragon! That worked. And JustSomeGuy I know that was an easy thing to do, but the buildhelp.exe didn't help me. I just got confused with all the sector effector things. Anyway thanks!!

Re: Doors
When ever i try to make a door and put in a sectoreffector i change the lotag and hitag using F8 and i set it to the correct setting. Yes I know it is correct because i used the auto close setting that Dragon said.
Here's the problem... when i go to play the level it brings up an error saying "Lonely sectoreffector (lotag 0) at so and so coordinates." Well unless I'm losing my mind i know i set that lotag for that sectoreffector! Then when i go back into build and check the lotag of the sectoreffector it says it has a lotag of 0 and a hitag of 0 too! Is there some patch for that or what! DAMN BUILD TO HELL!!!! |

Re: Doors
Or in 2D mode, use ALT+T (lotag) ALT+H (hitag) but not F8. Thats a search tool for sprites or walls.
