Plug'n Pray Remake for PC?
Hey, i was thinken of doen the remake of plug'n pray episode 4 From the PSX version of duke nukem, but i dont know if its legal or not, although it wont feature any of the textures from the PSX version but i can do it to the best of my build abilities but if im not allowed to post it online then ill keep it to myself as a personal episode, i cant promise of it actually being made cause i have a crap load of time but i lack the motivation into actually remaken it

In a word, no. Several of the maps from Plug and Pray have been halted mid production in the past. It's not legal.

Though if you have so much free time and an urge to make maps, you should start on your own episode. You can certainly be inspired by Plug and Pray.

There was a 4th episode in the PSX version of Duke3d? Correct me if im wrong you can use the same LAYOUT for the maps just you have to build it yourself and use your own textures...hence why theres alot of Quake and Doom 1/2 inspired maps all over the place for various engines, but again ill wait for TerminX or Joe to correct me .

well plug'n and pray had to have been made on the PC and the layout had to have been the same as the original PC maps accept it was modified and ported to the PSX version, they probebly have the original layout of the maps somewhere, but impossible to try and get ahold of them...

3DRealms didnt make the new maps.
Remaking the maps and art by hand is in no way illegal.

I think having an exact replica of a levels layout is still a big no-no when it comes to something like this. You'd have to make alterations somewhere to make it your own. I think anyway. Yeah we'll need someone to verify/clarify.

I honestly don't know about that. When you look at the Playstation files the maps are stuffed with their textures and assets, so the formats are different.

If the net results is an indentical image... then no...I'm pretty sure that's still illegal.

Which is practically impossible, unless you traced them.

well, i dont trace i have like 5 copies of the DN total meltdown and id only use 1 for the level maken basicly, i trace from the level when the game is runnen and if i get done with it i go to the next the reason for me having so many copies is because i like to do link to link PS1 MultiPlay, but as far as i know remaking isnt illegal BUT i cant mark the maps to make sure thier in my design would that be legal?

I've tried extracting the maps from PSX Duke but they seem to be compressed or encrypted. The art tiles are in another format entirely. Some kind of automated converter could theoretically bypass any legality issues but it would require some reverse engineering.

Kind of OT, but have any of you ever noticed that the Total Meltdown disc holds a fifth episode?

but one log that convert map/art would be legally?

Cause in this way,you need the PSX ISO for data,so you need to buy it...

Good luck with that.
You'd have to write that program by hand.

I could see ALOT of sense in playing them on the PC version.

Yep, and the extra art and sounds may be pretty useful for modders.

I agree.

And NOT everyone who played PC version have the PSX version of DN3D.
So it would make any damn sense.
